Getting greedy some of these bar owners. Yet another of the Tiger bars has just gone from 300 to 500 baht fines. Can't see it's good business sense to me. It alienates regular customers (like me) and also the BGs...they used to get 200 baht from a 300baht bar fine...they still get 200 but from a 500 baht fine now from this particular bar. As a result, at least 2 of the bars best girls who have been there over a year have left.

I normally have to pay a bit above those rates because I am not as handsum as other Board members.

Italians and Aussies are the tightest with their money I've been told!

Just keep in mind bar owners face increasing rents and higher leasing fee's all the time, I dont like increased prices either but the real problem is the land owners/sub lease holders of those sois. With the high fee's currently charged for new contracts in Tiger I understand they have to charge more. They increased the leasing fee from 2m to 3m for a small bar this year. (For a 3 year contract) Crazy amount of money if you ask me.

I would prefer to continue keep Patong cheap and good value but as long the landlords charge more and more its not going to happen, and in a number of years Patong may have outpriced itself. (Sadly)

Last trip some ladies in some of the bars opposite MTB told me that now all the bars in that soi charge 500 baht barfine as well!?h:

Unfortunely thai landlords here don't give a fcuk as long as there are people ( mostly farangs) willy to lease (2 or 3 years) a small beer bar for millions of baht. Tell them ( landlords) that they are not so smart to do it and wait for their answer regarding the "smartness"of farangs!

I might understand your point of view, and with that many people, but, it is not only a question of supply but also demand....
If people are willing to pay higher prices it will result in people asking higher prices, a normal economical phenomenon.
You described previously your unhappiness with increased pricing in Soi Eric but you are still willing to pay the higher prices. As long as anyone will follow in the practise of paying more anytime it is asked or 'required', prices will keep increasing.

Furthermore I do not see a relation between prices paid for lease and mainly drink prices in Patong (and as per discussion bar fines). Prices seem to be put at such a level which is still acceptable to most customers. No relation between cost and profit is used as a basis to set sales prices. Examples can be made for several sales products...

I do agree with your view that Patong should stay affordable. Not cheap but with acceptable pricing for a wide public.

Last year I tried to Bf a Bg from a Tiger bar and was told 500baht - not knowing it was the going rate there and thinking they were trying to scam me as a newbie - I said `no way` and they quickly offered 300baht.

Sadly though Nicke is right - bar owners face the pressure of exorbitant rents on the one hand, and punters not wanting their holiday baht to fly away too quickly on the other.

But if enough punters are willing to pay 500 baht (forever chiselled on their gravestones that they are not `cheap charlies`) then more and more bars will be 500 baht, and then upwards and upwards and upwards..........

Are the bar owners only doing exactly what the soi owners are doing to them?? If the customer is willing to pay it, why not increase it?

No need to consider inflation or calculate it as a perceneforum.xxxe to equal other increased costs, just put it up to whatever you can get away with!!

The topic of barfines has been done to death previously but heck is it not becoming ridiculous when you compare a bf of 500bht to st or lt costs?
