anyone have problems with custom craftworks headrest?

I have a custom craftworks athena table and occassionally get complaints about the bar on my dual-action head rest. For some clients, the bar hits them in the chin. I've draped a towel over the bar and it helps a little. I've also had to raise the rest a little. Seems like a pretty bad design, though. I would like to have the option to lower the the head and tilt it downward for posterior neck work. I figured that was one of the benefits of DUAL/ACTION! Am I the only one who's encountered this problem?

While I'm kvetching about my headrest... has anyone else had to order the repair kit for stripped "teeth" on same rest?

Other than that, I really like my table

My chin sometimes hits that bar when I go for massages.

I recently got a new Earthlite table with the http://www.earthlite.com/caressFacecradle.htm Caress face rest- it doesn't have the bar going across.
Maybe you can see if Custom Craftworks offers something similar?

Just an fyi- custom craftworks & earthlite's holes are spaced differently, so they are not interchangeable

Yes, Thats the only negative aspect of the table as far as I can see. I use a boiance face cradle so it seem to raise the face off the bar a litte. Or you can put a cover or heating pad on the table raises the body further away from the face cradle so you can then raise the face rest higher and not hit the chin.


Other than not custom craftworks tables are very good and I would recommend them.

I love CustomCraftworks but am not happy with the swivel face cradle. In fact I seldom use the swivel as once I move it it is hard to find center again. And the bar does bother me. I tried a Kurve (they make a CC model) but I'm not happy with that either.

So I do a lot of custom adjusting.

I've never liked the face cradle either and yes sassafrass the teeth on that mechanism shredded. At the time, I wasn't able to buy a new cradle and didn't bother with the repair kit since I didn't like it anyway. I have an Earthlite chair, so my husband changed out one end of the table to accomodate the difference in spacing so I could use the cradle from the chair for awhile.

I have since purchased the Earthlite Caress cradle and so far clients love it. My table wasn't that old and I think Custom Craftworks makes a good table, but I will probably buy an Earthlite to properly accomodate the face cradle when it's time for a new table.

I just forwarded this thread to the nice folks at CC. Hope they get the message and re-design the face cradle. Their tables are so much better made than any other table I have ever had. But the face cradle needs some more thought.

Thanks elsewhere. I had thought about doing the same (alerting them of our discussion). Hard to believe these flaws got past the R&D. Did anyone actually lie in the rest? Hopefully we'll have new options from CC in the near future because the table rocks. Sturdy, comfy, reasonably light for those outcalls.

i think that earthlite and oakworks are the same company now. one bought the other company i think. oakworks sell the earthlite caress headrest too so i think they have same face hole distance.

the caress is awesome for helping clients get less pressure on face due to gravity.

Did your husband just drill new holes on one end of you table- or did he do a more major modification? That's an interesting idea to me.... Have you had any fallout? Is the new cradle stable? I have 2 CC tables that are 6 and 2 years old--I'm not in any hurry to replace them. However, my clients comfort is paramount. So, your solution may be something to consider. Is the caress rest the one that tilts upward around the edges? I'll have to look that one up...

Yes, he drilled new holes and fashioned a new wooden piece to match the existing one, so it looks just the same, just with different spacing. The Caress cradle is very stable in the modification.

Go to Earthlites' website and check it out, it's a good design. The cushion doesn't velco to the cradle, it floats on the 'petals' and when you put you face in it, the cushion settles in and it stays put. It's very comfortable.

This is Josh and I work for Custom Craftworks, our sales manager, Teri asked me to post her comment in regards to this thread.

Thanks for making us aware of the feedback on our dual action face rest.
This particular design has served us well for many years. However , I will
share this information with our design team to see if we can work toward a better solution in the future.

In the short term , it has been suggested that scooting the face pillow in
closer toward the table on the face rest and pushing the two ends of the
crescent pillow closer together seem to minimize , if not completely
diminish , the likelihood that the chin will come in contact with the bar.
