What a shitty day...

As promised was in Newmarket this afternoon. Stopped by 161 Davis Dr., Romeo, update your pages, these places no longer exist!
Then headed down to Concord...HFH was busy, didn't get there in time. So from some advice from Paul Waters headed to Sunset Spa....traffic was crap and I couldn't find the place!

Oh well, there is always tomorrow after golf. Besides, my lucks gotta change for the better

To be fair, as someone who can comment on such things:

Romeo's website although simple html coding is still a pain in the ass to maintain. I am sure he doesn't go out and verify that ever place on his pages are in operation. For someone that is relying on the information of others he is doing the best he can. As for the validity of his site I can only pass the info on to him as I come across it. Although, initially disappointed with the parlour's being closed, the way my day was going yesterday, if they were open I probably would have had the worst session of my life or worse busted. All that said, I don't often find I use his site because there really isn't the type of info on it that I am looking for.

If you don't like Romeo's site, don't use it - no one is forcing you. Do your own research, maintain your own database and stop bitching about something you don't even pay for!

Any hobbyists knows how often these places open, close and change ownership - impossible to keep up to date in real time.

Anyone with a 2 or more digit IQ would call the phone # first. If there is no phone #, then you take your chances if you so desire.

No one ever said it was your "job", but if no one else offers the info that Romeo tries to, and no one offers him info, then I don't believe that complaining about what he does offer is of any value either. ( Thanx for the history though, I would have quit to if I got no reply) but Romeo has in fact used info I had provided.

I dunno about you whiners, but I've sent three updates to Romeo over the past couple of months and the updates to the site were done ASAP. I sent the information to his email address on his site, which is where I think any updates should be made, rather than to a third party board that he may not look at regularly.

My two cents.

Yeah, normally I am, but when I've sent repeated updates and nothing gets done, you get tired. Maybe Romeo was too busy back then and has more time now. I still refer his list to others, I just gave up trying to keep him informed as to corrections or updates.

He is getting revenue now on his site, so that might explain as to why he is prompt now.

The only ones who have a right to complain are his paying customers ( ie : the advertisers ) - and don't even think about trying to connect the door fees to advertising costs - the door fee is pretty standard from place to place, whether they advertise or not.

Are you a paying customer of Romeo's purple pages ? Do you advertise on his site and therefore are concerned about decreased traffic due to out-of-date info ?

Think about it.

Guys who knock Romeo have to just think of the logsitics of staying on top of all these spas and MP's that come and go with the wind and the vagaries of local councils and the law. Not to mention the fickleness that is the MP customer ( and we should be fickle for the money) I found a lot of his places are dead links when I did a search when I first moved to Hamilton. That said, I wouldn't go to a place off his list until I either talked to the MP or saw that it was still in business. He tries to keep up with changes and I sent him a couple once and he made them, but living out Hamilton way, he cant stay on top of all of them. So he depends on us. Shiek I am sure tried to help him a few years back and he didn't make the changes. Ces't La Vie...but looking at Romeo's list tells me he knows where most hole in the wall style places are..and I am going to take one for the team, I know where to find it... Romeo's. The guy doesn't make any coin off of us for the service so quit shooting the poor bastard. He has to get out there and get some every now and then, Iam sure that messes with his head enough!!!

Off-Topic Glipse into Romeos Life:
In grade 10 English class we were arguing of the merits of the Romeo and Juliet suicides. Some girl named Mandy thought the suicides were really admirable. I got really pissed off at her for approving of suicide so I went over to her farm from my farm and killed a couple of her cows. Okay I made the last part up but the rest is true.

Updates:
Sheik did send me some updates which I did not properly thank him for. I may also have botched up some info. I generally don't reply to "MP X is closed" emails because it is time consuming.

I don't recall MoneySpender or anyone else sending info which I ignored. It could have been an email problem on my end. I was using excite.com which was having serious financial problems. Three years ago I was living in Nebraska so MS has his time mixed up a little.

So guys keep the updates coming in. Send two pieces of info and you will recieve a thankyou reply

Hobbyist Help (Free Massages):
When I asked for help a few people did scout around in their region. I emailed the two most helpful people about providing free massages in exchange for this. One guy wasn't interested in the girl I lined up and the other guy didn't reply. I tried.

How RPP works:
I put the listings into an Access database and create the pages using a program I have written. Then I upload then using a ftp program. I usually update them Wednesday night after I have parsed the Now ads for new phone numbers. This explains why updates aren't always immeadiate.

The Purple Pages are quite a big project. It would take about a month to recreate from scratch. I will probably switch the database from Access over to SQL Server at Christmas and will rework the entire site. It will not be any more accurate because I do not plan on phoning all the MPs once a month.

SPs and SCs:
The SP and SC lists continue to be quite inaccurate. Those businesses change so quickly. Some SPs only last one week.
If someone could send me the links of all the SCs it would be appreciated. I know I saw it on one of the boards a few months ago.

Confusion:
I know the Purple Pages are confusing to some. Once a year a get an email from someone complaining that his home number is on my pages. Then they don't even tell me what thier number is! Then I email back and they don't reply.

Selling ad space has not worked well. I'm not sure how effective the banners are either. Getting payment from MPOs is particularly hard. "There isn't a Canada Trust/Royal Bank near me" is my favourite excuse.

Romeo, PM me i think I can help you with some Marketing advice to at least help you break even. BTW, I won't get into the FTP protocol here, but I thnk there are quicker ways to update your site.
