I have never been there but I am sure some of us have. Anybody get that impression?
From Today's Inside CR: Three Arrested For Sexual Exploitation of 25 Foreign Women
A La Uruca night (strip) club was the centre of a series of raids on Thursday that led to the arrest of three men, suspected of sexually exploiting 25 foreign nationals.
The arrests occurred in raids in five different points, including a Sabana Sur apartment.
Agents of the Organismo de Investigacion Judicial (OIJ) say they followed up on complaints by women who accused their employers of forcing them to offer sexual services to customers of the club and in some cases forcibly detained and/or had their travel documents retained.
Three men, one an Egyptian identified by his last name, Mazi, a Colombian and a Costa Rican, identified as Caicedo and Sanchez, respectively, were arrested during the raids.
Authorities say the owner of the club, Atlantis, an American with the last name of Scott, is outside the country and could not be arrested and have asked Interpol, the International Police organization to locate him in the U.S.
The investigation revealed that the network operated in the country since 2008 (when the investigation began) contracting women overseas and hired as dancers, but allegedly forced into prostitution.
Jorge Rojas, director of the OIJ, said that Scott was the leader of the group and controlled the money, the Colombian did the recruiting, the Costa Rican ran the club and the Egyptian was responsible for the slavery of the women.
Authorities say there were no minors involved in the ring.
Within the exploited were Colombia, Dominican, Honduran, Nicaraguan and even a Russian national.
The three are charged with "trata de blancas (trafficking of persons). In the raid, police found an assault rifle at one of the locations.
