Honestly get a passport and passcard and use your passcard in TJ,It is only 20 dollars if you have a passport.But it is 45 if you don't have a passport and don't want one for some reason.That way you do not have to lug around and maybe loose your passport.Not to mention I have a 5 year visa for Rio and it cost me 200 dollars and sometimes you only get 90 day ones,like on my first two trips so I don't wana have to replace that as I just got it last September.

Passcard is fairly easy and all you need.

Trust me seconday is something to avoid.

I do not understand how anyone who mongers enough to join this board will not get a passcard and passport it is ridiculous.

You do not need a passport yet. You can use your driver's license with a copy of your birth certificate. However, there are numerous reports of people (and I've witnessed a few in the line) crossing with only a driver's license. The agents lecture you and may send you through secondary inspection.

Get your passport. It's not that expensive nor is it particularly difficult.

I know taking pictures is a taboo there, but there's got to be somewhere where they have it.

Yes, tourism is way down in Tijuana. The causes are:
--The US recession
--The (misunderstood) requirement for a US passport to re-enter the US
--The misbelief that it is dangerous for tourists to visit Tijuana
--The misbelief that tourists will have problems with the cops

However, the economy in Tijuana is better than in the US. Tourism and vice are actually only a small part of Tijuana's overall economy.

There is more to do in Tijuana than most mongers realize. TJ has some first rate restaurants--places that would get rave reviews in any US city. I think it is sad that so few mongers ever get to know Tijuana; it's an interesting (and safe) place to visit.

When Jorge Hank was mayor the cops were out of control. When Jorge Ramos became mayor he started cracking down on corrupt cops. Problems with cops are way down. (But that doesn't mean that you can do something illegal like carry drugs, carry a weapon, urinate in public, etc.)

In TJ there is an on-going war between two drug cartels. Violence, however, is targeted, not random. It is very rare for bystanders to get hurt. So far there has been zero violence in the Zona.

In Tijuana there are several types of "putas":

Walkers - chicas who wander around the streets trying to find customers. Most are "druggies" without health cards. I avoid them as they are the group most likely to have STDs. Also I don't want the cops to stop me in the company of somebody carrying drugs/known to use drugs. (To avoid being caught by the police underage putas--if they exist--would almost certainly be "walkers.")

Street Girls - stand in one spot waiting for customers to come to them. Day after day you'll find them standing in the same place during their shift. They usually have health cards.

Bar Girls - as the name states, work in bars. Most have health cards.

Escorts - work by appointment for agencies like MexicoLindoBar.com, CuminTJ.com, etc.

Stay away from the walkers and you'll be fine. If you really are scared then see an escort who works with a reputable agency (such as one of those I named)--they do not employ underage chicas--or ask to see the chica's health card.

It sounds like a scam to me. TJ cops have been known to pull this sort of thing to get a pay off.

In TJ a "puta" is required to have a health card. The authorities are active in seeing chicas--especially street girls--have a health card. So I'm a little skeptical about the chica actually being underage. However, if you want to be sure insist on seeing a chica's health card. (And don't be surprised if some don't want to "out" themselves by showing it to you.)

I'm thinking about going TJ sometime next month, but I dont want to get into any trouble over there. I had a friend who told that he was just walking the street, checking girls out, and that a girl who he thought was 18 approached him with an offer. He said he was talking prices with her a cop stopped him and told him she was only 15.

He... freaked... out. It took a long time for him to swear he didn't know, and he hasn't been back since.

I've read a lot of posts, and I wouldn't mind trying the street girls if I can. And I like them young, but not that young of course.

Has anyone had similar experiences? Anyone know how I can avoid any kind of misunderstandings?
