bar work

Hi guys.

I'm a 19 y.o. aussie male heading over to thailand start of feb 09 and was gonna stay for a bit if i get some work before i head to europe. Whats the chances of me getting either work in a bar (which i would prefer) or had a friend work in a scuba store or at resorts for a few months??? and would i need a visa or can u just pay the cops off? Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the board mate.

You will not get a work permit to work in thailand in the bar , the average monthly pay is about 6000tb , you can drink that in one night I think.

I am sure more BM's will give more answers soon , just enjoy your holiday and do a bit more reading and searching this helpfull site

i cannot recall seeing any farangs working in bars other than the owners.you see a few handing out fliers for night clubs,but i would say the surf shop is the best bet.

From what I read and have seen in LOS, odds are against you in being able to find work. Many others would have done it by now if possible.

It's a bit heavy going, but have a look at this list of jobs which are restricted to Thais only. Post#3 Part 18 refers to bar work.

Quite honestly, you would spend more than you can earn, and that's assuming you take the chance of getting a job without a WP. Get caught working without one and it will cost you one way or another.

Bar work is a non starter for you.Farrangs can't do casual bar work.:info:

To be employed is a Scuba store or work in a Dive Shop requires you to be at least a PADI Divemaster to be employable.Most companies here prefer fully qualified PADI Instructors.:info:

The only place I have seen farangs working in bars or scuba shops, presumably without all the proper papers, has been on Koh Phi Phi. Haven't been there in a while, but that is probably your only possibility since they seem to be far enough away from the scrutiny of the authorities, easily alerted to their presence, or something..., etc.
