Bartender in Tiger dead.

When we stay in Patong we use to spend an hour or two every night in a bar in the Tiger complex where one of my wifes friends work. The bar is the second on your right hand side when you walk from the toilet (I never remember the name). I heard from my wife that one of the bartenders died today (his name is Poe or something like that, and he always had a scarf on his head). He was the most friendly guy, and I will for sure miss him and all the fun we had in the bar. Everytime I came to the bar he asked me if I had "snus" for him.

Any of you expats/bar-owners who knew him or know what happend to him?

Mrs said he passed away from liver problem (sounds like a tumour from what I've been told) - she knew him well - there is ceremony at the temple (on Beach Rd near the football stadium) is Patong today for anyone who wants to attend.

Update - Mrs went to the piaano this afternoon - his name was B(p)oe and it was a tumour in his liver - he had recently moved bars and was very well liked in Tiger.

First time I met him in 2004 he worked in the first bar from the toilet and moved to the next one before my stay in February this year. I can believe he was well liked, all the staff in these two bars are very friendly people.

Used to be one of my regular bars as a girl I knew worked there. Spent many nights drinking there. Very pleasant guy.

Went by there yesterday to offer my condolences. Kinda gloomy understandably enough.

I had a mate who worked as assitant manager in the Horizon Beach Hotel (next to the Holiday Inn).

I used to go and have a bite to eat in the Baluchi Indian Restaurant in the Hotel and then shoot some pool with him.

He was only mid 20's and slim and fit always seemed to be sober, maybe had a beer, but I never saw him pisse* once.


I went in one day and they said he had died, his liver had packed in from drinking and he was the second member of staff to have died the same way.

You dont really here much about it in LOS. It gets a lot of coverage in the UK, with more an more 20 year olds being diagnosed with liver problems.

Part of the problem is the Livers ability to re-generate its self. It can take one hell of a battering and still re-generate with no visible signs at all, but once the fine balance has been tipped and the liver can not re-generate, it detriorates rapidly and causes the body to shut down.

Shame, but always makes me wonder what mine must look like, as I have been known to get cained every now and then

I had an appointment to get a check up at this place a couple of weeks ago, they carry out all sorts of checks but also a full liver scan to tell you what and how you are doing.

I was all set the night before for a quite night as you can't eat or drink for 12 hours before, then I ran into some friends and got a bit too drunk and did not wake up until an hour after the appointment.

I wished I had gone now as I would like to know just how much damage the many nights of boozing in LOS has really dont to my liver.

All that is required is a blood sample , and this can be done by your own doctor (G.P).

Yes I know what you mean and I have had 10 years more abuse of mine than you have.

What if he says you are fukced mate! stop drinking now or it is all going south.

That would be a hard lifesaving burden to bear.

I had an aids test a couple of weeks ago and I was shitt*ing myself, not becasue I thought I had it but because of 'fear of the unknown' mmmmmm


Still got the all clear and a big weight of my mind

hi drew, i have had tests done recently by the doc and the hospital ,so far alls ok (i must have a very tough liver!)
i started drinking when i was 15 (bulmers cider) and im still at it now !

Technically after drinking Bulmers from 15 you should now be dead

you are obviously a 'medical phenomenon'

I can usually last for about 10 days on the beer and then I have to have a night off and stay sober to dry out.

Although i like to drink... If i was told i had to give it up then i dont think that would be a big problem.... Its smoking that really would be a killer for me ..... I can sympathise with you over the HIV test.... When i had mine done i had to wait 3 days for the results (which is pretty good) But i was scared that i did have it... I started to think over some of the stuff i had gotten up to and thought yeah i must have it... Then the doc said your ok... I slept very well that night i can tell you
