BKK/Pattaya or AC?

I was planning my next trip in feb next year and I cant decide weather I want to go to Pattaya and BKK then Phuket or to Angeles City and then Phuket. So I was hoping some of the BM's who have been there could give me some opinions about each place.

I plan on flying Air Asia to KL and then onto my next destination but going to AC means that I will have to spend a night in KL (not entirely a bad thing?) as the flight to AC leaves at 7 AM (but if any other BM's know a better way to get there from Perth please let me know).

Horses for courses, if you want to be a very-bad-boy go to Angeles, then Pattaya, BKK, lastly Patong. But if you want sun, sand and sex put Patong first.

do two trips....one BKK and AC...and the other Patts and Phuket.....unless you ahve a mont to spare it'll be to much travelling/changing planes/taxis/hotels etc

I was only planning to visit two destinations (for arguments sake, lets count BKK and Patts as one) as any more than that would involve way too much travel. I'm looking at about 18 nights ATM. My current way of thinking is,

5 nights in Pattaya,
4 nights in BKK,
9 nights in Phuket,

or

7 nights in AC, with a 1 day stopover in KL either way unless I can find a better flight.
9 nights in Phuket.

I like Patong but I've been there twice before and would like to see somewhere else as well. Both trips were for two weeks and by day 10 or so I got a bit bored (good old ADD kicking in) so I'm hoping that splitting up the two weeks would break the monotony.


Been reading up on it, most of the basic questions are already answered, hotels, transportation etc but I'm still not sure to which destination I want to go. Also for future reference, Wikipedia is useful for figuring out which airlines service a particular airport like Clark for example.

AC is a hard core mongering place...more so than Pattaya even....not much else to do there...at least Patts is on the coast and has plenty to do in the daytime

you know Phuket is more of a beach holiday (with plenty of mongering options) and BKK is a large thumpin' City with loads of nightlife but not really a holiday experience IMHO

Cebu + Puerta Gallera in the Phils have a mix of beach + mongering so they might be another option

only you can sort out what sort of holiday you want.....

KL is a good spot to spend a night or two from Phuket to AC.....or so I've heard.

If you are leaning more towards Thailand...my 2 bobs worth is, do it this trip & next trip do PI

Save PI for next trip....many places to go there.....You have Manila, Angeles City, Subic Bay (the new Angeles, on the water), Cebu, Boracay etc etc etc

Seems that way to me too Nelson....I wouldnt even consider AC until I was well and truly bored of Pattaya, and I have barely scratched the surface of the latter.

In addition, Pattaya has far better tourist infrastructure - all in all a better place for R&R, for me at least. AC strikes me as being a bit of a dump...but the lure of cheaper "good times" seems to pull in the punters.

Am encouraged to hear about some coastline destinations opening up in PI - now that would get me interested.

If you spend 1 night in KL, don't miss out on Beach Club. Plenty of honey over there. I stayed at Concorde Hotel last March : good value for money, definitely GF and a great location. The city is kinda far from the airport though (2x 1 hour drive)

The other lure of AC that I enjoy is the bars kick off early, you can monger all afternoon and into the night, you can be home by midnight after a huge day, its better on the body clock. I feel they make better quality farang food too, some BM's will disagree with that.

I don't really get out of bed before 12 if I can avoid it so I don't really do much of the touristy stuff (don't shop much, tours often require me to get up too early), don't really go to the beach much because I hate crowded beaches (even slightly crowded) and burn way too easily. I didn't have my own transportation in LOS the last two times (owing to the fact that I didn't have a license at the time) but I'm planning to spend the majority of my time in Phuket where all the touristy stuff is available but then again I consider lying around doing nothing a good way to spend a holiday (thousands of KM's away from work with a foreign SIM card in my phone).

Have to wait until my tax check arrives before I can book flights anyway so I have until then to decide, AC seems new and exciting but Pattaya/BKK seems comfortable and familiar.

BTW, found a way to avoid spending two nights in KL, Tiger flies between PER and CRK with a 5 hour stopover in Singapore, not the best of flight times. Leave Perth at 22:30. arrive CRK at 15:00 the next day but I can save on 1 days annual leave by leaving on the Friday night.

Dunno if this is useful or not, but the last Air Asia flight from Phuket to KL leaves at 21.05, arriving 23.20

There is a pretty good local airport hotel which is cheap and lays on taxi as well. That would probably be better than going in to central KL. So then early start (but not as early as central KL) to get 7.20am flight to Clarke getting in at 11.15 ready for lunch.

If you go to Angeles, I recommend the Pacific Breeze hotel. its brand spankin new, beautiful pool and restorant, great food, prices are reasonable too.
If you book early and have a few bucks get a jacuzzi room.
oh yeah, their girl friendly too.
Here's the view from the restaraunt across the pool, unfortunately the sign says guests can only bring maximum 3 ladies to the pool at any one time.
can you live with that?

Was idly thinking about going to Angeles in September, but I understand that is right in the middle of the typhoon season!

Does anybody know just how bad the weather gets there at that time of year and would it be enough to stop you going?

The rain is absolutely no big deal at all. I stayed at the Pacific Breeze Hotel. Best Hotel and location. ABC & Lewis Grand are nice but out of the action. With the PB you go from go go to bed in 5 min. This came in handy. Don't get the jacuzzi suites because the jacuzzi's have no water pressure just get a regular single room.

I am doing 6 nights in Angeles this October, then up to Pattaya.

I will need a holiday when I get back home to recover!!!!!
