I am graduating from massage school in a few weeks and want to go into business for myself but I am having trouble coming up with a business name.  I have a few months before I will actually be able to get my state liscense but want to get a jump on logos and all business filings with the state.  Does anyone have suggestions?

Congrads!!! what state are you in? I know how hard it is to make that decision. I looked on line and got some ideas but mostly it will come from your gut. What are you throwing around ? TN. has a buisness name look up on the state web site so you can see if the name is taken. Thanks Jessica.  I am in La. and our state does have a business name look up on the web.  I've been throwing around Relax, Inc. or Relaxation Station but I don't want to get set into only doing relaxation type massage.  It has its place but I want to get into more therapeutic work.

Look through a thesaurus (sp?). Sometimes when I'm looking for new phrases to turn in my flyers/ads, etc, I get great inspiration from that good book.It's very much like naming a child. I know we shouldn't have to talk about stuff like this but it's a factor of our profession.  Be very careful when naming your business.  I had a friend from massage school open her business after graduation which she named, "Angels Touch".  She got so many calls from perverts asking for their "angel" to be 5' 10" and under 20 years of age (to be less graphic than the callers but to give you an idea of what happened).  I never thought of it but she ended up having to change it because she had done a slew of newspaper advertising to start and the calls were un-ending and at all hours of the day and night.  Ask your friends and family what comes to mind when they hear the name you choose and good luck in your search.   Joe E.

I like your ideas.  Relaxation Station would be easy to remember.  I understand about going for a non-limiting name to start with though.It's not really a bell ringer, but in thinking of how to combine therapeutic and relaxation, I thought of Theralaxing...its therapeutic and relaxing!  People could say, "I got Theralaxed!   "I'll keep thinking

I like Blue Lotus (it's an automatic logo).  What about Blue Lotus Day Spa (if you are doing the whole dayspa routine and not just massage).  Generally, when I hear lotus incorporated in a name it makes me feel there is a holistic slant anyway.I like the lotus theme too!    ;D

Congrats zcrsdad,My business name is Relaxing Touch Massage but i'm in Texas...  There is also a Relaxation Station in Dallas that does mostly chair massages in the mall...  You said you wanted to do more therapeutic work... What about Therapeutic Touch Massage or something along that line... Best of luck to you...

Well you certainly have enough to choose from.  One thought, I'd stay away from Heavenly.  A massage therapist friend of mine told me she had to change the original name of her business with Heavenly in it (because of huge numbers of calls she received from customers looking for more than she offered).  Apparently, heavenly is widely used by "escort services" masquerading as massage businesses in the yellow pages.  I don't know if it was just where she lived but I can see the ads in my head.  Just a little nonsense we have to deal with.  I'd hate for you to have to change your name once you print cards, etc.  Joe E.

Thanks for your ideas Skipndance! I really like the sound of Blue Lotus Day Spa...Very peaceful and serene. I am also an artist so I could draw a blue lotus for the logo. What I have in mind for my business is a place with a holistic feel that offers massage, facials, other spa treatments, yoga and meditation classes, and maybe a little gift shop.I would really love to buy a big, old victorian house near the ocean and convert it into a day spa/bed and breakfast so it could be kind of like a retreat!Hmmm....Blue Lotus Day Spa and Holistic Retreat?Something for me to think about! I'm just starting out in the massage field so the day spa/retreat would have to come later down the line...But it's nice to have goals! ;D Right now I just have a few clients a week so I don't really have an established name yet. I guess that's what I should  be focusing on, huh?  :-/ Well...I need to get new business cards made up. The last ones just had "MY NAME, LMT" and were very plain. Cassandra your right it's very important to have goals and a business plan set in place to keep a vision of what you want achieve in the future. I say stick with what your doing now and once you ready for your own place get out there and get that Blue Lotus Day Spa name registered because I think it's a great choice for a day spa. We all gotta start somewhere you know and just keeping building and moving forward from there!!

Lotusgirl:It's not only 'nice' to have goals but it is essential to have goals.  If you don't focus on the end point where you would like to be 'later down the line' then 10 years later you look at all you've done and realized you aren't far from where you started.  Have short and long term goals and focus on them daily.  Make sure your short term goals will help you meet your long term goals and do your best to meet those short term goals as soon as possibhle and then set another goal in its place.  I rewrite my 6 short term goals daily.  I don't complete them in any particular order but they help keep me focused when I get a little overwhelmed.
