"Caring for Pregnant Clients" Course

Hi!

There has been much discussion in the past, but not recently on HP, about maternity reflexology courses. I am still considering undertaking additional training to give me more confidence in taking on pregnant clients (and also to meet FHT requirements......)

Anyway, the one that seems to suit me best in terms of cost, duration, location, etc. is Denise Tiran's "Caring for Pregnant Clients". However, this course is not specific to reflexology for pregnant clients. I have also researched alternative course (Suzanne Enzer, Moshe Kruchik).

Has anyone here completed Denise Tiran's course and how did you find it? How useful was it in relating to your reflexology. Any feedback on this particular course would be much appreciated!

I've already researched the courses available and have read up on Moshe's course. It sounds great! I would love to be able to attend one of his courses. However, location tends to be a problem. There seem to be very few courses, and the closest to me (in Devon) so far has been in Wales! Looking at his current schedule, I can't see when he's next back in the UK...

I have thought long and hard, and as I mentioned in my original post, Denisies's course suits in terms of location, timing, cost, etc. What I'm really keen to hear is if anyone has completed Denise's course as it sounds very thorough, covering pregnancy, etc, and Denise also offers a further course specific to reflexologists once this has been completed (although I'm not sure if this would be required as I feel it's more about understanding how to deal with pregnancy and it's complications rather than reflexology techniques specifically, as I think Moshe said in one of his posts, it's about understanding what is causing the symptons,

Hi,

I drove up to Wales to do Moshe's course from here in Plymouth. A nice drive. The journey and the course was worth every penny but I do appreciate it is not possible for all to travel so far.

I'd drive to Scotland if that was the only way I could do another of his courses!!

Seriously though, it would be nice to see more courses coming down this way for us 'Janners'.

I have also taken Moshes course and to be honest I was not that impressed, it was more the anatomy of pregnancy and Moshes take on what reflexology should look like and how it should be preformed. I did take a few things from it, but I think if you take Denise Tirans course and you have a good knowledge of the anatomy of pregnancy then you'll be fine.

If you're going to be practising just reflexology for pregnant clients, I would personally go for Susanne Enzer's course. It's not just about pregnancy but the whole fertility cycle, from puberty to menopause. It's extremely thorough, takes place over two weekends, 6 months apart, requires written work and case studies to be undertaken in order to pass the course and, it turns out, gives you tools you can use for any client, not just women. So if you can get to one of her courses, it will be entirely worth the journey. Denise's course would be useful if you're practising more than one therapy.

Likewise Elmyra. I did the first part of her course but was unfortunately ill and had to miss the second part. Since that was quite a while ago, I'm going to do the whole thing again, next year if I can. I've specialised in maternity since 1997, when I studied childbirth education with the NCT and Susanne's course was not only a confirmation of what I already knew but a real eye opener, with loads of new techniques and skills. And if you want a really good giggle, watch the "Hormone Hat"

I have opted to do Denise Tirans's course. It's not so much about techniques as about understanding pregancy, it's process, and complications, so a good bases, (as also mentioned by Elmyra Duff in this thread). I was going to attend a course Denise was going to run specifically for reflexologists in Oxford this month, but sadly it was postponed to May (at the earliest). So I'm embarking on her online distance course which has the same content but involves emailing off exercises and having an online tutor assigned. Additonally I have bought Suzanne Enzers Maternity Manual which sits alongside just great, although there could be great benefit in attending a course as she describes some techniques (endocrine balance and lymphatic technique) which are tricky to pick up without actually seeing and doing!

I'll follow the updates on Moshes course in Devon (although having heard on the grapevine, sounds like the location is still 2 hours away - Devon's a BIG county!) It may be useful and fun to attend if time and money allow!!

I look forward to any further comments on the courses and thanks for the tip off about Moshe in Devon!

I would like to edit this, but not sure how.

On hindsight, and after re-evaluating what I wanted from Moshe’s course and talking with Moshe, I would like to say it is very worthwhile 2 days and I stand very much corrected with my head hung in shame. As a student at the course I interpreted what he had said incorrectly.
I would recommend this course and Moshe’s take on the pregnant body, mind and spirit....

Dear Elmyra,
What happened that you changed your opinion overnight?
And what did you expect therewouldbe in a maternity reflexology course? is your knowledge on anatomy and physiology of pregnancy that fabulous that you didn't need it? Before attending the course, I've heard about him and doubted how much could this guy know about maternity reflexology. He demonstrated not only his brilliant knowledge on the field, but his understanding of women...his way of explaining everything. Moshe is definitely the best in this field, an incredible professional and outstanding human being....Not only his course, but also he himself helped me so much.
Thanks God there are still people like him teaching reflexology.

Denise Tiran's course is also full of inspiration. Different, but good.
Go for it. She has a whole lottofexperience, the course is worth every penny.
