The Chico City Council will discuss new rules to better regular local massage parlors through an ordinance that will follow the California Massage Therapy Council guidelines.


CHICO, Calif. - The Chico City Council, in a 7-0 vote on Tuesday, passed agenda item 5.3, which will begin the process for the City of Chico to add new rules and regulations on massage parlors.

Several weeks ago, the Internal Affairs Committee held a meeting to discuss additional regulations for local massage parlors. In that meeting, officials say the committee voted to recommend to council members that they direct staff to create an ordinance that follows the guidelines created by the California Massage Therapy Council.

The new regulations could include requiring practitioners to be certified through the California Massage Therapy Council, adopting local zoning, business license requirements, and reasonable health and safety requirements.

With the passing of the agenda item, city leaders can now take the first steps in changing local requirements to include stricter operating guidelines.
