Combating Los Blues.

Two weeks later and I’m still suffering from the dreaded LOS Blues, if anyone has any ideas on beating it feel free to post some suggestions.

Here are a few things I’ve been doing to combat it (I’m sure non of these help)

1. Walked in to my local Thai restaurant, practicing my very limited Thai whilst resisting the temptation to try bar fining the cute 19-year-old female daughter. :embrassed
2. Made several calls to BG’s, persuading one for phone sex and explaining to one why I never took her to the full moon party as agreed. All calls made drunk.
3. Making visits to various newsagents in town with Thai girls working behind the counter, making small talk and thanking them in Thai after making purchases. :embrassed
4. Talking non-stop over lunchtime beers about all things Thai.
5. Talking non-stop all times over all things Thai.
6. Trying to get my female FB to say various Thai hooker phrases before doing and during the deed.
7. Reading private dancer, e-mailing BG’s, Reading this Forum and sporadically bursting into tears for no apparent reason. :embrassed

Go to a nightclub where local Thai girls go. Get talking to them. Arrange to met one the next weekend. Then sleep right through the alarm and miss the date. Finally get black-eye from her best mate when walking through town centre, a few weeks later!

Most of my newsagents can barely understand english never mind Thai



You have good/open-minded friends/colleagues. I try to keep a stock of anecdotes ready for the non-nightlife conversations - the beaches, the island trips, the temples, eating fried grasshoppers, an orangutan riding a bike and elephants pooing on people.

I like to listen to thai music I find that lifts my mood a lot. CDs I've brought from LoS and now I've also discovered this internet station Online Asian Radio Station - Live365 Internet Radio - «« BU' »» Thai Radio to go along with thaidisco.net. I don't think I'll ever tire of Naam Dtem Gaew despite hearing it like a thousand times now. Thailand chan yang dtong ror eek naan mai...dtong ror ter eek naan mai.

I would consider it rather silly to stop living your farang life and boring your friends non stop with thai stories etc....l'm pretty sure they will get bored with you quite quickly....now and again is ok...but how would you feel if they started raving about the Costa Del Sol every single time they opened their mouth ?

Fine keep in touch with the girls u met.....visit Thai Websites etc....but l would not segregate yourself from your farang friends as l presume you will most likely be in Farangland for 90% of the year.

You can't beat IJ's advice and start planning and saving for your next trip over there. I find the forum helps too............Unless it's Christmas and I am the only one at work and all the regular BM's are propping up the bar at the MTB and rubbing my nose in it!

Start putting a bit of money aside and cruise the airline websites for those bargain flights. Before you know it you'll be back again!

hit the bars and clubs as soon as you get back
try and get something at home and it definitely gets you stop thinking of LOS

I know where your at, i had the reverse culture effsct when i got to my log cabin in the frozen yukon. rolled up in a ball and cried...that story made a lot of my freinds giggle.

It reminds me when i got off the plane in Vancouver in April, It felt cold and not very inviting. My freind takes me to the local strip joint and i sit down and look around and wondered what i was coming home to...then this ladie who suggest that $40.00 lapdance per song would be something i needed...All i could not to chuckle, but I told her "i just got back from thailand, do you realy think there is anything you can do to impress me".

Then my freind spends $80.oo for a lap dance. If the LOS has done anything to me it is make me cheap, Can you imaging what kind of fun you can have for 2500 baht, maybe only a litlle bit, but more than 7 minutes of lap dancing

Two weeks back from Phuket and I was planning a return trip, at least it gave me somthing to dream about.

LOS Blues should be formally recognized by the Canadian Medical Association as a severely debilitating disease and medical insurance should pay for treatment- ie another plane ticket to LOS! When I got back from 2 weeks in May, I was clinically depressed until a month ago: . It will get worse as fall/winter sets in. Like IJ sez, book another trip. I'm looking at returning in November. Keeping an eye on this forum helps too!

There are only 2 ways to cure this nasty non-discrminate affliction, both are extreme. The first is to marry a thai bird and take her home. The second is to move to LOS permanantly. I have seen the results of both and the cure can be worse than the disease. Going home can be tough but after living in LOS for a while i found the place lost a bit of it's appeal. Now I return occasionally and have re-discovered my love of the place. Having a "regular" back at home makes a hell of a difference too, even if you have your eyes closed and are thinking of your favourite BG.

...........go inside, put the heat up to 35c......put on yer board shorts, singlet and thongs..........get out yer duty free Mekhong and drink it............works for me for about 24 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
