Coporate Work - Reflexology

Hi all,

I would love to do some work corporate work but I am not too sure where to get started. Please can anybody point me in the right direction.........

I did read on the forum that someone else is doing corporate work and they mentioned about some info from Denmark which could be used........any ideas what this is and where I can get it from?

How much is a reasonable charge? For example, say I did the hours 10.00 to 2.00, allowing 30 mins per person, would I charge per person or just a set amount for the hours I am there?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi CWT,

Are you a member of the Association of Reflexologists? If so, you can obtain a leaflet from them entitled "Reflexology at Work", in which it gives details of the Denmark research.

There's a lot of think about. For example, you need to allow yourself a small break when working out time slots. What is your usual hourly rate? What happens if you don't get any clients one day because they are all in meetings? I seem to remember a forumite saying she had a contract with a company who would pay her a set rate, no matter how many clients she had, so she wasn't out of pocket. The company could pay for all a treatment as a benefit to the employees, or could subsidise treatments.

In the first instance, I would suggest writing to the HR Manager setting out what reflexology is and how it can help the employees, highlighting the increase in work stress over the last few years (again, the AoR leaflet can help here). Then follow up with a call, perhaps offer him/her a free taster session and take it from there.

I endorse everything that Sarah7 is saying except that if you do get a chance to go and see the HR manager make it very clear that you are demonstrating a treatment not giving them a free taster. My collegue and I have found that this makes a big difference in how you are treated professionally.
We gave some free taster sessions in corporate but when it came to payment the clients resented paying (we were charging £15 for 30mins of either aromatherapy back massage, IHM or reflexology) that is a good rate in our area.

Be very clear about what you will be charging from the start.

Fortunately, I am a member of AOR so I will go and seek out the leaftlet you mentioned, fab.

I think the £15 per 30 mins is along the lines of what I was thinking of but as you say some people may have to cancel if they are in meetings etc, which I did not even think of. The set rate is also a good idea but I was worried that the Company may try and cram in too many people within the time set. Did the Companies pay you straight away after you had been in or did you have to invoice them and wait for payment?

Can you tell I am soooooo new to this....

The best way by far is to get the company to pay you a set rate. It is up to you then to determine how many YOU can do in that set time, you have to dictate as you are the provider of the services.
Simply make up an appointment sheet with your breaks intergrated into it.

eg

10.00am SLOT
10.30am SLOT
11.00am SLOT
11.30-11.40 comfort break
11.45am SLOT
12.15am SLOT
12.45am SLOT
1.15 - 1.25 comfort break

etc, etc

Orange used to provide complementary therapies to their workers but the onus was on the therapist to make the appointments and they got paid a retainer by the company (not orange but the company that had recruited them) and then they worked on a % of each client. This led to pressure on the therapist, having to trawl around people at work asking for business (not nice, and an air of desperation). I was approached to work for them and decided to turn it down.

Go into this with a set idea of what YOU want from this, do some promotional gear, do a write up on stress in the workplace to give to the HR and some little posters to put up. Get some professional postcards/flyers made up to make you look professional. Wear a uniform of some description, even if its a polo shirt with a name badge on it. Have all matching towels, etc, have a container for all your oils etc, so that you a) look professional, b) prevent oil slicks everywhere you go.

Have consultation forms made up and give some to HR and have some outside the room that you will allocated so that they can fill them in before their treatment thus saving time.

If possible get the work emails of people attending the treatments and email them a reminder, alternatively, suggest that the person co-ordinating it in HR does this the day before. Be prepared for the fact that at least 1 person on your list will not turn up as they've been detained at a meeting, or rung in sick.

I did some corporate work for Bupa some years ago, I was paid for the time I was there which was agreed in advance. It was all part of a scheme to reduce stress in the workforce.
The tasters were about half an hour and I had a break after a while then started again.
I got some lovely feedback from HR and the staff and I really enjoyed it.

I was working there at the time in another field and a stress busting day was introduced so they asked me to take part.
If you contact HR they should be able to tell you when their next one is and what therapies they are currently offering and require.
The only trouble with the large organisations is that there are likely to be some trained staff already in the workforce so they dont always need outside help but its worth a try.
