Costs of Reflexology Courses

I just wondered if anybody can tell me the general cost of a Reflexology course.

There is one I am interested in but it is over £900, does that sound like a normal price as I wasn't expecting it to be that much?

Wow, that seems a bit steep Gail,

I'm doing Itec Reflexology at a local Adult Education college and it's costing me just £200.

Shop around, perhaps use the Hotcourses and Floodlight websites for help.

I went through the AOR website and all the courses are about the same I've just realised, this is probably the cheapest I have found... but the thing is I do have to do my course on the weekend as I work long hours.

The courses at private colleges are often more expensive than those at adult education centres. It's worth looking around, although of course, some are better than others. Check to see if they've run the course before and how much experience the tutor has.

This one has been going for about 12 years now and I find that at the Adult Ed Centre's they break the courses up.... They also don't tend to do weekends do they?

Some do weekends - best to check out the college prospectus.

Also look at ones in adjoining boroughs if they're not too far for you.

You could try contacting AoR and Itec directly but you may have to hurry as most courses start in Sept I beleive.

Thanks Russ, just looked at the AOR website again and the Itec one and nobody does weekends in my area or near me.... HELP!

Is anybody else starting one on a weekend in Essex or Kent or even East London?????

Middlesex School of Complementary Medicine do ITEC courses, about £400 or so.

They are in Northwood, Middlesex. They do all weekend courses.
I did my reflexology in Manchester at a private college and it was 450 plus exam fee.

I was originally wanting to do AOR but it was very expensive, over £1,000. It hasn't been a problem for me not doing it, I get plenty of clients and was happy with the training.

i dont think AoR are affiliated with local councils, who can then offer subsidised training. i agree candie, i dont think i missed out on the training.

mind you, my local education council insist that people wanting to do ITEC courses have to have done the Intro to Holistic Massage first (the course i started to teach last night).

Locally we have the VTCT course at about 120 - 200 pounds each at local college (Dudley, Stafford, Wolverhampton, Telford and Walsall.
We have AOR Reflexology at Stafford college for 250 run in Codsall
350 for a course at Athena School, Willenhall which gives you both AOR and ITEX certificates.
I've seen the ITEC and AOR exams locally for up to 600 pounds.

To practice in Reflexology what certificate do you need, because I am about to do a search to see if I can get a cheaper course but want to make sure I will be qualified to do it on people.

Depends on the course.. for VTCT and ITEC you will need an Anatomy & Physiology certification. For AOR the A&P is builtin and therefore you don't need it to qualify and be insured. Not sure about other examination boards..

I'm doing AoR reflex in Herts and unfortunately have also had to stump up over £900. It was the only course that I could get on that had convenient dates and times!

I did a Reflexology course with the British School of Reflexolgy last year. It lasted a year. Part correspondence, but I had to go to Essex for 6 week ends over the year and then sit a 2 day exam. Cost: £1350.00

It was quite intense, but I felt that I got what I paid for!

I trained with the IIR. My course cost around £1000 - The IIR teaches the original Ingham method of reflexology. The qualification is recognised internationally. The workload was very high - we had to do 100 hours of case studies which all had to be written up to a very high standard and marked. You had to achieve over 80% in the exam to pass.

A friend of mine recently dropped out of an ITEC course - the tutor hadn't been qualified for that long and she didn't feel as though she was learning in enough detail. Before people jump on me I do realise that not all ITEC courses are like that - a lot depends on the tutor.

I think in a lot of places you get what you pay for.

This shouldnt be allowed and I hope it is tightened up soon. Who wants to learn from somebody with no or little experience?[&:] It was my understanding that ITEC teachers had to have been in practice for four years before teaching. I met a therapist who taught VTCT and had no clients whatsoever.[:'(]

From my experience, a good therapist doesn't necessarily make a good teacher.

North Kent college run AoR courses I think and they are based in Dartford that could be useful for you.

Apart from that perhaps try City Lit or City and Islington.
