Hello all,

First post here, I’m based in England and will be heading out to Thailand for the first time 24/08 for 4 weeks. Heading straight to Phuket for 11 days before venturing else where.

I’ve been reading the forums for a couple of weeks now and it’s been very useful.

Basically, Im a DJ and play in bars and clubs most weekends and something I’ve been thinking about in the last couple of days and wanted to see if anyone knew anything about was whether it is possible to get a DJ gig whilst im away. By gig I generally mean a one off set or two where I would play for free (wouldn’t be asking for any money). I’ll be taking some of my mix cd’s to hand out to people any way, does anyone think there might be any bars interested in this? Or anyone i could contact before? I mainly play deep house / tech house / melodic type stuff but can play more commercial if needed. Is this this type of music even likely to be found in Phuket?

Anyway its just a thought…. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Officially you cannot work, even for no payment, without a work permit.

Try doing a search on this topic as there's been a recent thread, going into this in great detail.

There is a guy on the board, think his name is RST or similar, who is a middle man between clubs and DJs. I guess he may be of interest for you.

I dont know about this but Club Lime and Seduction used to have guest DJs, we also have a new disco called Hollywood.

Disclaimer: By law a work permit is required, but I dont think the guests DJs appearing around town have that.

No work permit no chance of anything much more than a 5 min mess around. Would be surprised if anyone actually let u have a go to be honest without any connections or influence. Enjoy the holiday - am there a day before you so perhaps may bump into you out there.

The number of clubs and venues having dj's spin is constantly growing, but most book the schedule months in advance and the local residents guard their position.

Do you have a sample mix online?
Can you put one up so we can check it out?

A few options off the top of my head would be ClubLime, Seduction, Hollywood, Club53 (Grand opening 6th Sept), Mali Seafront at Karon Beach (once a month full moon party), White Box at Kalim Beach and the soon to re-open O'Malleys in Phuket Town.

We will also be having a launch party for the opening of our new recording studio on Saturday 30th August (excuse the plug, Mod) so try and drop by if you get the time.
