Been doing massage for going on 4 years now so I *know* how energy works, how you pick up on things when working on someone etc. Now I've been on the other side, I got a massage from someone at a Renaissance Festival last week, and he also does a lot of CST, energy work etc. I basically gave him 'artistic license' to do whatever he felt I needed and it all felt soooo good. When we were done, he said "You're holding a lot here (putting one hand in front of my chest) and here (hand on back). It's emotional but it's manifesting itself physically." It's true. I've been dealing with family problems, my mom's death in June, settling her estate and I do carry it all there. Even though I've done it myself, there was a feeling of total wonderment at what he said and felt.

I also decided getting a massage at Ren Fest isn't such a good idea. I was no good for the rest of the afternoon, felt totally disconnected and just wanted to go home. Or at least go back to the van and sleep!

As far as massage at Ren Fair, maybe the answer isn't necessarily to forgo massage entirely, but perhaps to be more specific with your request for what kind of work you want?

Yup, definitely end of the day next year. It really wasn't that big of a deal, just that for the rest of the afternoon, husband was asking 'Do you want to go watch the jousting?' "I don't care" Did you want to catch the next show of Hack & Slash?' "I don't care". I just drifted dreamily through the afternoon, without even a cup of ale to help me drift, lol. I felt so daggone GOOD afterward.

It was interesting to tell a totally unknown MT "Do what you feel I need" and see what he did. In the beginning my mind was taking notes and I had to force myself to stop thinking and just relax. But he really wowed me. You're right. Neat.

EDA: I asked for work on my back as I'd done massage at a Folk Festival the day before and was slammed all afternoon. He asked if I minded if he did a little CST or energy work and I said no, as long as he didn't just put his hands on me and hold them in place for 30 minutes! He then laughed and asked if I was giving him 'artistic license' to do whatever I needed and I said sure, go for it! And my back did feel very much better after.
