Nationwide therapeutic massage franchiser Elements Massage anticipates opening locations in Mequon and Brookfield this year and said franchisees are recruiting 50 to 75 massage therapists for Milwaukee-area and Madison-area studios.
Also in the works for metro Milwaukee are locations in Pewaukee, Greenfield and Grafton, said Aimee Matchette, owner of the Elements Massage studio in Whitefish Bay and area director for the company.
Matchette has run the Whitefish Bay location at 312 E. Silver Spring Drive since 2008. The other Milwaukee-area Elements Massage is in Elm Grove at 12920 W. Blue Mound Road.
In the Madison area, the locations are in Sun Prairie, Fitchburg and Middleton.
The next Milwaukee-area studio to open will be in late July at the new Mequon Town Center, 11215 N. Cedarburg Road. The franchisees are Amita Mirani and her husband, Sandeep, of Brookfield.
Amita Mirani said she is recruiting about 10 massage therapists for her new Mequon Elements Massage studio.
Elements Therapeutic Massage Inc. is owned by WellBiz Brands Inc. of Highlands Ranch, Colo. Elements began franchising in 2006 and has about 200 locations in 32 states.
While demand for therapeutic massage continues increasing, the supply of newly-graduated massage therapists has not kept pace, Matchette said.
Some massage therapy students locally were displaced in August 2014 when Anthem College closed its Brookfield campus, she said. Elements Massage franchisees continue recruiting from Herzing University and Blue Sky School of Professional Massage in Grafton, Matchette said.
“We’ve had major growth in our industry,” Matchette said. “As a whole, there has been a bit of a drop in enrollment at the schools.”
