Financial crisis hitting sex business: discounts and lower rates!

Accordings to a recent newspaper article czech prostitutes have to change their behaviour due to the financial crisis hitting the sex business.

Night clubs are not charging anymore expensive prices for sparkling wine but they are now offering free drinks to attract potential clients.

In the border areas to Germany and Austria, the number of night clubs decreased in 2009.

Only clubs with strong investors can still operate in this hard time of recession.

Prostitution doesn't disapear but girls keep moving from night clubs to private flats wich are cheaper than night clubs.

Accordings to officials, there is about 10 000 prostitutes in Czech Republic, accordings some NGO's there is about 30 000 prostitutes actually working.

Most of the clubs can be found in Prague and in the border areas, especially near Germany and Austria where foreign sex tourists can find cheap prices and anonimity.

Night clubs are facing a decrease of customers so the competition is higher than ever.

In some clubs the business is so slow that girls are not sitting anymore all night in the club : the club call the girls when customers are showing up...

Most girls working in night clubs and privates are students and single mothers but there is married women as well.

I found a newspaper article about financial crisis and prostitution in Prague.

It says the crisis is clearly affecting the prostitution business both the number of clients and the amount spent are falling down.

Clients try to find satisfaction at lower prices, mostly in private flats wich are cheaper than night clubs.

Last 6 months the turnover dropped by 50 %. Clients are still going to night clubs but they only "look" and don

Interesting how high the proportion of the sex industry is from tourists. In Asian countries it is more like 95% locals and only 5% tourists. So it must be more vulnerable to a tourist downturn.

Another short article in the newspaper today. To make it short:

Sex business is a big business in Czech Republic, between 9 and 10 billions crowns. 60 % of this amount is coming from tourists and only 40 % from locals.

Due to the financial crisis the number of tourists dropped drastically and it strongly hurts the sex business.

Yeah things have gotten bad, a lot of the work is being moved to Budapest and further on east, Czech Republic however does not seem to have gotten cheaper.

Was there last month and things i usually used to buy for cheap has now become expensive.

Property prices seem to have held a little steady which scared the shit out of me because i always consider Czech Republic my home and i cant afford to live there because if you convert the price of an apartment to dollars or euros then you quickly see that it is not cheap but higher priced than nearly all other european capital cities.

I reckon when things were really booming the Czechs spent way to much money on shit they didnt need.

The Koruna is getting stronger, this is bad news for all of us, a lot of companies moved their support and sales operations to Czech Republic to save money, this was a great move.

The Czech Economy is now emerging nicely and thus carving out their space in Europe as one of the most expensive cities.

I can tell you now that it is even getting to expensive for foreigners to live in, i had evidence of this a few weeks ago when i was there.

I have since packed up and moved to the UK and now only holiday in Prague.

It will not be able to keep going the way it is now, the current state of their economy seems favorable to them at the moment but it will have to crash and then build slowly again.

The boom wont last because what they are experiencing now is just a flood of spending of both cash and credit which will stop because lets face it, your everyday Czechs are not used to having money.

The financial crisis is hurting Czech Republic as same as other countries:

* Local companies are reducing their work forces, some even closed for relocation East.

* Hotels/restaurants/bars/discos are offering discounts (30% discount all summer seaon in an hotel, free entrance to different discos, up to 20% on all drinks on selected days in a music bar, 50% during happy hour in other bars...) or bonusses (2 for 1, free bottle of wine, free taxi home if drinking alcohol... in different restaurants). Some restaurants are remodeling their offers/menus (introducing cheaper menus/plates, offering free coffe & cake if ordering menu...).

* You can see now more and more empty commercial space troughout the city (including the city center - Prague 1) due to shops/business closing. Several projects are suspended (e.g. new restaurant Pizza Colosseum, new Fashion Outlet Center, several companies cancelled their option for commercial space in the renovated Railway Station "hlavni nadrazi"...).

* Flat rates (rent) seems to lower as well as prices for buying some properties (when owners need quickly cash).


Therefore some friends recently asked me why some night clubs (e.g. Big Sister) and privates increased their rates since the crisis started ?!? (the average rate per hour in private seems to be now 1500-2000 kc + cash for each extra while last year it was still between 1200-1500 kc including - most of the time - BBBJ/CIM/69).

I already mentionned in a previous post that some night clubs informed me about the possibility to talk about good deals in case of longer term escorts (e.g. evening or full night), girls offering special deals directly (understand without club/agency/private owner in-between) and growing number of girls (students, single mothers, divorced women) looking for "lovers" to take care of them (not only with gifts like "gold diggers" girls but also monthly financial help in cash).
