First visit to Phuket

Hi All

I have been reading some of these threads with interest and lots of great info. Myself and the Girlfriend will be visiting Phuket from 1st - 16th July this year staying at the Le Merridien beach hotel.

We are not looking for any action as it were, but looking for great bars with great people friendly and fun people to help make our vacation.

Can you guys and gals please recommend some good bars to visit, and if anyone is in town these dates would love to meet and chat over a cold beer.

In addition what is the average prices for a beer and meal in town ?

Beer is around 70-80 baht a bottle in the beer bars. Some do drafts for even less. A bit more in discos, 120 baht in Tiger and Tai Pan.

A good meal can be had for less than 200 baht in restaurants. Less than 100 if you eat Thai.

Banana Disco near the beach has fewer Thai ladies around looking to hook up with a guy. Mai Thai Bar would be a great place to meet people from the forum and the ladies will leave you alone.

Shipwreck Bar and a few others along Bangla do not have any working BG's so you can go there and not worry about it.

You can get food from 20 baht to 600 baht depending upon where you go.

Just relax and enjoy yourself.

Bars in places like Karon and Kata are not full of BG's, just a few around.

Your hotel is between Patong Beach and Karon Beach.They lay on a shuttle bus to run the customers into Patong.They also have their own luxury cabs.

If you come to Patong there is a wide and varied range of restaurants.Down Soi Bangla is where you will find all the bars.MTB is in Soi Eric.

Welcome to the forum , best thing you can do is pop into the Mai Thai Bar , Nicke and Ead are great hosts and they , or some of the other "real" BM's will give you some good tips on places to go.

Nick and Eads bar ,The Mai Tai Bar rocks and you couldnt ask for better hosts.While Im not into expat bars , particularly those of my own country, I did enjoy The Aussie Bar because it was a good size with pool tables and the lack of bargirls made a lot of falang women (ie western women) a little less uptight (read threatened)

Hi, I have stayed at the Le Meridien and it is an excellent hotel. Check out the climbing wall, I only managed 3 meters. There are some small shops outside the gates of the hotel, good place to pick up cheap drinks to have in your room. Use the shuttle the first night and when you know whats going on, get a Tuk Tuk outside your hotel because it is actually cheaper for two people than using the shuttle. (ALWAYS get price first). Karon is a nice location for a quietier night out. The hotel has a private beach, (it is public actually but access is via hotel). There are massages on the beach on the right hand - worth a go - I had one everyday. NB - I went before Tsunami and I know this hotel was badly affected and closed for some time so some things may be different. Please report when you get back. Have a fantastic time.

If you want the best steak in Phuket, you need to go to Kata, and the place is called... er Something pots... its damn it... wheres a map

Anyway owned by an Aussie, and its the best.

Mixed Grill - absolutely huge Pork, Beef, Lamb chop, sausage, 2 eggs and green stuff about 450 baht

Have a great holiday, I suppose this shows the variety of Phuket but...if there is one place I wouldn't return to eat is the Aussie place in Kata was the worst food I had on my trip.

Maybe it was a bad night but I hope it shows the need to find your own nice places on your hols, we all like different things here that's what makes it soooo goood
