That was one of the rumor's they told us for not to going to TJ. That tj police if they found out u were military would hold u there until the military came and get u. There where ton's of rumors they told us for not going to tj.I'll list some of them when I get time.

Yes, it was good advice to ask the car rental agency if you can take the car rented to Mexico. If they so no, don't. Don't be a donkey like me and not follow their policy.

Lastly, I know it was called the Paris hotel in TJ. I believe Fireball has the right info. But any TJ cabbie should know about it. I asked a cabbie to take my friend and I to take us to a place where we could get what we wanted. He took us there. I gave him a nice tip since the girl I found was pretty good.

The TJ cop: He pulled me over on his motorcycle, then I explained what happened in the post. The TJ cop wanted me to follow him back to their police station. I assumed I would have been arrested, because as soon as I told him I had a beer, that's when he told me to follow him back to the TJ police station.

Whether or not the American who spoke Spanish was part of a scam or not is not important to me. What was important was he spoke Spanish and I cannot and at least he negotiated a deal so the TJ cop would let me go. Thank God. LAPD is Los Angeles Police Dept and TJ is Tijuana Police Dept.

Yes there is a "Paris Hotel" in Tijuana, if that's the one Tigerchris is talking about? It's on corner of Articulo 123 and Niٌos Heroes. It's a little dump of a motel the same kind most SG's use that charge about $5 dollars, and you usually have three or four SGs standing just outside of the motel, and a few more across the street and to the side. I had a few good experiences with SGs in that area, as they up sell less than the other alley SGs or they make good deals like totally naked, and all the position you want for $25 dollars.

Yes, it's good to never take a rental car to Tijuana, however a few rental agencies if you request will allow you to take a rental there if you tell them in advance, and get Mexican car insurance. So it pays to always read your rental contact, and never say never.....but most rental companies won't let you take the car to TJ, hell many don't even allow you to take it out of state.

The American walking down the street, could have been in on the scam if he only stops and negotiates the release of the car for $50 dollars? You just never know, and you could have negotiated the release of the car too, but asking the cop is there anyway out of the situation then getting my car towed? Most of those cops would have said, you could pay him the fine directly.

The LAPD and TJPD work a little different, but even if you were arrested you would have been able to see the judge, and I'm sure allowed to get off after paying a fine?

Are u sure u hookup with a girl at the paris hotel in TJ? I know for sure there is a paris hotel camboida are PI (not sure which country). I wanted to post this for sometime. About 4 or 5 years ago, I got pulled over by a TJ cop. (Never take a rented US car over the border to TJ!!!). Anyway, the freakin cop said I had to follow him back to police station, because I told him I had one beer to drink. Fortunately, an American who was walking down the street who spoke Spanish talked to the TJ cop and I had to pay the TJ cop 500 pesos or $50 US dollars to let me go. I followed him to the nearest ATM (Can you believe this sh*t) and I him gave his freakin money. Thank God and I got the fu** out of there.

Money well spent because my friend who was with me, his brother works for LAPD,told me that the car would have been impounded, bye bye rental car. Plus, they would have forgot about me in a Mexican jail! The TJ cops gold is arresting US military guys on a fling in TJ.

You will see TJ military/cops with machine guns in the street, so don't be surprised. I was there when they were trying to capture a Felix gang member.

Even in June of 2009 their will be multiple documents accepted like their are today. Their is nothing in the works to make the only document accepted a passport.

The passport requirement for entering and leaving the U.S. by land (both northern and southern borders) is being delayed to June 2009. That news appeared in the San Diego papers a couple of days ago. Here is an article in the MSU newpapers:

The reports out of TJ this week are that spring break has resulted in an increase in tourism. I'm sure the drug wars has hurt tourism. But I suspect the U.S. economic downturn has hurt just as much. We were in TJ yesterday and took the Mexicoach back at 2:30. We spent almost 4 hours getting through the bus lane! Bad!! They said the slowdown was caused by spring breakers coming back, both locally and into Tijuana airport then to the border by bus, with lots of luggage to screen.

I would say if you have been robbed by the TJ cops the last 4 times you've been down there, you need to find a way to travel with a crowd. Safety in numbers.

I have been to TJ twice since the passport /birth certificate rule has come into affect. It has definitely put a damper on the bar scene there ... the crowd is about 50% smaller and it appeared like there were fewer SGs. The bars, Adelitas, etc seemed to be packed as normal though.

I believe its the younger teens (17 to 20) who used to sneak over the border to drink and party has really been the ones who has drop off dramatically. The mongers who go for the BG has dropped but not as significantly. But since not as many teens are going over it makes it appear like it affected everyone. ...JMHO

I've been going to TJ almost weekly the past few months and from what I could see, yes the traffic is definitely less than before the new passport law kicked in. I am not sure if it's caused by the new passport requirement or the negative stories circulating through the media in the states about TJ. Maybe the business leaders talked to the police chief or the mayor, because I am seeing a lot less patrol cars and less foot policemen in the area. But make no mistake, they are still there along with occasional military soldiers with machine guns. We can say all we want about how safe TJ is, but when you see soldiers with masks with mounted machine guns stationed at the corner, hell I am not sure if I am really in the safe area....

I do believe that the new document restrictions have affected the businesses in TJ. I was there a week ago and notied how many less pedestrians (especially americans) there were. Also the barkers and beggars were more agressive than normal. I found this particularly annoying as I do not like to deal with those people. There is one gnarly looking skinny lady who begs on Coahuilla who is IMHO the biggest pest in TJ...sometimes she follows me half way down the block and just won't fuck off.

I was in TJ last night and our cab driver claimed that there were lots of tourists and his business had not declined.

He also said that Adelita's was terrible, the women too artificial. He liked Luxor the best.

On the way back we saw 2 cops at the Sentri dropoff. We were on the pedestrian bridge so avoided them.

They were also warning spring breakers weeks ago to not go to Baja California.

And I understand just a few days ago they put out a report saying that tourism is down 90% from 2005 and they blame it all on crime and violence with no mention of the new passport or Birth certifcate law.

I was just in TJ the other night and I didn't see a 90% drop in tourism, and as far as spring break goes.....first of all Spring break is usually in Rosarito Beach not Tijuana. And I'd first blame the new laws and confusion about passports. Second I'd blame the month of March and the fact that Easter is in March this year, hardly beach weather as it's a bit chilly right now. I'd say the spring breakers would head to warmer climates? Finally, I'd blame the reports on crime and violence as they continue recyling the same stories over and over again.

I doubt that all the corrupt cops have been replaced as I recently saw a few of them questioning people just outside the zona. If your in the zona, they tend to leave you alone? For months now we have seen Federal cops in the street. Months ago the TJ cops had there guns taken away, and recently it happened in Rosarito Beach. but I'm not sure of any recent things happening with the Miltary as it seems like business as usual the last trip I made to TJ.

If you were really unlucky enough to get robbed by the TJ police in your last four trips............then in all likelihood it will happen a fifth time as I see no great changes in TJ since your last visit. However for the rest of us you really have a low probability of anything bad happening to you other then you getting drunk or picking the wrong chica and getting a lousy fuck.

I was just wondering if anyone had seen the FNC report last night about TJ and if so how true is it?

They said that so many businesses were closing down on Revolution Blvd. because of the drug wars and police corruption that the TJ mayor has called in the military.

They said that all corrupt police have also been replaced and the military is constantly on patrol and that now TJ is much safer.

Does anyone know this to be true/false?

I want to go back but the last 4 times I went I got robbed by the cops.....
