Excellent post buenisimo. I agree with many, if not all, of the points you make.

You seem almost prophetic being that you posted this on December 15th 2006... and on Januray 2, 2007 the federal army came in by surprise and occupied TJ for about three weeks. These military occupiers took the guns away from the TJ Policia Dept. during that time, and TJ experienced a huge drop in crime during that period.

Unfortunately it appears that things have returned to normal now, and a visitor to TJ must be aware and on the lookout for rateros, both with and without badges, once again.

I disagree with a lot of what you are writing Buenisimo. First I think it's rude to come to another prostitution forum and talk about other forums. It also depends what you like. TJ Amigos, is going through a period of an epidemic crisis right now with so many members taking on a 2nd handle and proclaiming their LOVE for Mexican prostitutes, some even claiming to up-rooting their lives to be with their 'LOVE WHORE' who of course loves them dearly back - yeah RIGHT??

Buenisimo you say you have a 'girlfriend' is this a civilian girlfriend or puta[prostitute] girlfriend? If you say puta girlfriend than we can understand why you like TJ Amigos so much because they deal with those issues.

If you go to Tijuana all the time, especially the zona, you NEVER see anybody running around with guns or anyone getting shot. The worst you see is TJ Cops shaking down a few Monger Tourists of a few dollars. If you are not involved with the drug trade, you have NOTHING to worry about. I agree with NOB on this point.

Revolution is not more dangerous than the zona, and in fact I would say it's less dangerous than the Zona. The only thing to worry about is the higher end Stripper joints charge you more money, and a few waiters have been caught trying to do the $20 bill switch, saying Senor, you only gave me $1 dollar when you actually gave them $20.

Again I would agree with NOB if you are trying to pickup Tijuana local girls at higher end clubs, you better know some Spanish and have a little 'game' or these girls will be as bad as the ones in the STATES!!!

I go to TJ all the time because I have a girlfriend who lives there. Violence in TJ has spiked dramatically due to the narcs. The situation is so bad that people are asking for the federales to help out more. THe mayor, Hank Ron has refused to do so.

The other day there was the Mexican equivalent of the FBI - forgot their acronym - at the Plaza Fiesta because of a shooting. They roped off the place at around 11pm. I drove right by there and saw it. Also some Americans were shot when the narcs murdered some police officers they were after because the Americans were sitting in the same restaurant. A lot of innocent bystanders get hit by the cross fire and the narcs don't care. They're ruthless.

Kidnapping
Look at the new billboards in TJ by families asking for help in freeing their kidnapped family members. Tourists are unlikely to be targeted, but still, it's unsettling what's happening in TJ. There was also an article I saw a few weeks ago in the LA Times about all this, especially the kidnappings. This is something they probably learned from the Colombians, who have been doing this for a while now.

Zona Norte is also dangerous simply because of the thieves and addicts roaming the streets. So careful there just for that.

To be safe, use a taxi to go everywhere. There are some nice places besides the Zona, like Plaza Fiesta, Plaza Amigo (Froggs, Balak), etc... where you'll see normal nice girls - not hoes. That are easy to chat up and dance with - that's why they're there.

I stay away from Revolution at all times as I've seen and heard too many things. There are so many nicer and safer places in TJ than REVO to go out and have fun.

If you go to Adelitas/CC/Tropical take a taxi there and out and enjoy the other places. No need to hang out all freekin night at Adelitas or Tropical when you can by a nice girl in a normal place a drink and sit down and talk with her, nicely of course - after you've had fun at the Zona.

Don Ho, you couldnt have put it better. The greatest risk in TJ is catching an STD in the height of the moment, and if one is not careful.
Recently they rated ST Louis followed by Detroit as the most dangerous cities in USA. If you walk in of their down town/across downtown areas at night, it would make waking in Zona Norte seem like walking in Disneyland

Gonzoo is just spreading false rumors for unknown reasons. But usually this is the way rumors start, and if you can believe it, some people actually take stuff like this seriously as they already have their prejudices against Mexico and want to believe the worst.

Of course if something like this happened it would be all over the news in San Diego and Tijuana. However one incident like this should not cause the State department to send out a travel advisory even if it's shocking like the one reported. A travel advisory would be issued if they was some type of pattern of crime or kidnappings.

As I tried to explain to Burt in other threads, some times a 'travel advisory' will be issued for 'POLITICAL REASONS' as tourist dollars are very important, and travel advisories' against certain countries can have a adverse effect on the tourist industry in that country. When a travel advisory is issued a host country like Mexico will PROTEST, and sometimes agreements will be worked out having nothing to do with if that country is now safe. I know some people out there believe everything the United States goverment tell them, 'oh no, George Bush and the US goverment would not lie to me as I take everything they say as GOSPEL, but Mexico is another story. Everything that comes out of Mexico is a LIE!

BTW there is already a semipermanent travel advisory to U.S. Citizens going to border cities in Mexico if I'm reading old reports correctly there was a advisory put out in 2005. So if you take seriously everything the state department puts out then you should stay HOME.

Here is an interesting article EXPLAINING the way the U.S. Media and U.S. government were puting togething a MEDIA campaign against Mexico in order to interfear in the last Presidental Election and the so-called 'War on Drugs.'

I heard indirectly that an American couple and their two children were shot Sunday October 29, 2006. The LA Times did not have an article on this incident, but two people told me that they had heard it on the radio, and that a USA advisory was issued for US citizens to avoid visiting TJ.

Does anyone have any info on this matter?

Sorry then Camelfighter but it did seem like a newbies question to me and it seems we have lots of posters who have never been to Tijuana before. I doubt any of us mongers have anymore information than you do Camelfighter about the 'CARTEL WARS' except what we read in the newspapers. I know I never seen a 'WAR LORD' drug cartel leaders in Tijuana carrying around GUNS.

I'm sure you'll agree with Bohemian and myself that Tijuana is a 'relatively safe place to find pussy?

Hey Fireballs, You are a super posting guy. Very well put, though strongly I must say. One must realize that when one is in the Zona norte with some policing it is relatively safe. Of course its not absouletly safe as you would expect of a similar place in the U.S. or other parts of the world. Prostitution places always attracts criminals and the likes, but all said and done, TJ is not as bad as some make it out to be. As long as one stays within the clubs and beaten down routes, and not walk around dark lonely alleys, it is ok. One should always be on watch out and alert at all times, but dont have to be in panic mode. I have been alone most times and without much incidents. If you are in groups all the more better.

Now less suppose Camelfighter asked the same question but this time he was talking about Southern California, and he was interested in visiting 'Disneyland'
and he heard about the 'GANGS' in Southern California, and wanted to know if it was safe coming to California. WE WOULD LAUGH AND TELL CAMELFIGHTER OF COURSE IT'S SAFE TO VISIT DISNEYLAND, and this is knowing full well gangs are running wild in Los Angeles, and Orange County where Disneyland is, and there might be a gang shooting the very day when Camelfighter visits. The fact is any gang shooting won't have any effect on Camelfighter's trip to Disneyland, and I could say the same thing if he decided to visit Tijuana.

Come on down the water is just right in Tijuana and the girls in the bars are waiting for you to fuck em.

Yes, there seems to be a lull in the cartel war at the moment. There was talk of sending Mexican federal troops to restore order. Also Jorge Hank, the mayor, want to become governor of Baja and the violance isn't helping him. (He's reported to have "friend in low places;" if so he may be able to civilize the war.)

There are lots of checkpoints. But they are trying to stop the "bad guys" and aren't "out to fleece" gringos. I wear my seat belt, don't drive drunk, etc. and they just wave me through. (I have tinted windows on my car. If they wanted a bribe they have just cause to stop me, but they leave me alone.)

The last I heard the passport deadline was again posponed. Instead of being January 8, 2008 it's June 30, 2009 for re-entering the US from Mexico.

There is a proposal to create a border crossing card for those returning from Canada and Mexico that would cost less than a passport. (For obvious reason the tourism industry is fighting the passport requirement.) The gov't can't seem to get it's act together on the border card, which is one of the reasons for all the delays.

A passport is good for 10 years. Personally I'd get it now for two reasons. 1-When the dealine approaches I expect there to be a backlog with longer processing time. 2-When the real ID act starts it may be harder/take longer to get a passport.

My advice is to get your passport now. Then you don't have to worry/eperience problems later.
