Hanging arm rest shelf

Anyone have one?

I bought one of these years ago - some of my male clients asked for it.
And sometimes I bring one of clients arms up to hang off the front of the table.
So, I never got around to installing it and just recently came across it.
Of course I couldn't find the directions OR the screws.
A quick call to EarthLite and two days later I had both in my mailbox at no charge. Very good customer service!

Anyway I just now attached it and I am trying to get it adjusted to a good height. I am having trouble getting the length of the strap to stay where I put it. Is there a trick to "anchoring" the strap length so it doesn't slide down again when someone puts their arms on the shelf.
Please be very specific - I am just not able to wrap my head around this one. I tried looping the strap back through the same "buckle" thingy - but that isn't working. Is there a specific order in where to loop it?
(I haven't had a back pack in over 30 yrs and it seems to me I always had trouble with those too! : )

I have a padded sling the hangs below face cradle that a lot of clients seem to like. As for the shelf, my chair has one, and the strap seems to hold OK.
There are many different buckle designs, and some are tricky to thread. My advise is take a trip to your local department store, look for similar buckles on backpacks/school bags, and see how they are threaded.
I also end up placing a towel in the sling, which I mention to client is there for their use if the needed to wipe excess oil afterwards.

Stronglite tables have it with them... So, yes, I do have one on both tables in office.

Any luck getting the strap threaded securely?

I just started working at a new place this week. The owners purchased a one touch table. It came with an arm rest as well and I was inspired by your message to give it a shot and see if I could get it set up. I had to google search the table and find a picture of how the shelf was supported in order to figure out where to place the straps. I ended up threading the straps through the metal clasps that hold the table closed when it is folded for transport. The short end of the straps with the plastic buckle are up against the table and the longer straps that thread through the metal clasps are away from the table (I hope that makes sense!) So the longer straps are looped through the clasps and then get threaded in to the buckle and the whole thing forms a triangle when it is connected. I slid the strap in to the buckle from underneath then pulled it through until I got the length adjusted to what I thought would be comfortable for a client. Then I threaded the strap through the other end of the buckle and pulled it tight and it stayed secure.

Does anyone using the arm rests find it awkward when working around the shoulders/upper traps? do you just reposition the client? I have an arm rest at work, but only have one client that I use it with (a rather large gentleman who has difficulty keeping his arms comfortably next to him on the table) as I find it a bit awkward to use otherwise.

I hate the armrest shelf. I have some clients that love it, but I can't have their arms hanging that way if I am going to work on: traps, rhomboids, infraspinatus, teres, etc. in the way that I want to. There are some moves I can do, but esp. when doing structural work I need that scapula in a more mobile position. So what I usually do is have them bring both arms up to lay on the table beside them while I work on the upper back, then tell them they can put their arms down while I work on lower back, gluts, and legs.

Something that will help you with your larger clients, if you haven't already done this...

Get a twin size foam pad... "Egg Crate". Put it on your table, under your sheets, etc. Wal-Mart carries this stuff.

This gives you an extra two or so inches on your table that is smoewhat flexible, so the arms rest on the table better with a wide client, BUT, you can still get in close to the client as the crate moves (squishes) in toward the table with your bodyweight.

Another bonus is that it gives your table a bit of extra cush. I use a double layer (2 of them) if I want lots of cush.

Temporarily going off on a tangent here .... regarding the egg-crate thingies ... do you put them with the thingies pointing up, or down toward the table (or does it matter)? I'm thinking if you point them downward, you'd have a smoother 'top surface', instead of looking all lumpy when the client pulls the sheet back to climb in?? t017

Mine are with the "thingy's" facing up.

I have a sheet and a mattress cover over it and the whole table. Never makes the table or sheets look "weird" or "bunched".

In case I never said it before, I love having the armrest. But a stable one, not one that is flimsy. It's part of the reason I purchased my Stronglite. Personally, I don't use the universal arm rest, but the one made for my table. I don't particulary like the arms rests that attach to the face cradle as there is a little too much jostling about for my liking, but I am hoping that this newest universal one is something better for those who have been searching for something useful.

BTW, while looking at Golden Ratio's Armrest for a Golden Ratio table(http://www.goldenratio.com/GRW/options/images/arm-foot_combo.jpg) I got the idea idea that anyone could probably have a metal fabrication shop re-vamp a made-for-a-specific-company's-table arm rest, to fit on your own particular table specs if theirs wasn't a good fit, but was otherwise stable.


Lastly, did we ever start a thread which lists the dimensions of face cradle holes? If not, maybe it makes sense to do so, for ease of keeping that info handy and for when people are purchasing different tables. Just a thought.
