Hot STone/ LaStone

I'm looking to do some sort of hot stone workshop soon. I would like to use hot and cold stones. Looking for some feedback on Lastone workshops...What seem to be the best workshops out? Thanks

I took a LaStone workshop last year. I really enjoyed it. They delve into contrast hydrotherapy.

I've had different types of hot stone sessions, and by far the one LaStone session I had was the most relaxing.

However, there are a few issues I have with the LaStone coursework... one which is the signing of some sort of contract as I recall. I don't know if they still do that, but that sort of thing is not for me.

One of my MTs is LaStone certified, and she really knows her stuff. She uses both hot and cold stones, and at a prior location had built a clientele that really enjoyed it. She sings praises for LaStone training, partly because they include use of cold stones instead of only hot stones.

my stone training was with LaStone. of course, I haven't had any other stone training, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I think it was great training. There could be less emphasis on the spiritual aspects of stone massage, IMO.
The contrast of hot and cold was covered in depth.
Clients comment all the time how my stone massage is "different" and "better" (THEIR words, not mine!) than other stone massages they have had. I'd like to think it was just ME but I know the credit really goes to my LaStone training
(but then again, I've received incredible work from therapists who learned on their own too!)
An idea would be to go and receive stone massages from therapists with different training backgrounds. Go with which one you like best! I think personal preference can vary greatly with stone massage styles...

Just a side note:I don't remember signing a contract, but my class was many moons ago... it's very possible I just don't remember! But I did want to point out that alot of Trademarked or Registered modalities require an agreement - so that therapists can't go and claim they "created" it, or turn around and teach it (both of which could have a negative impact on the company, the modality, the integrity of the work, the list goes on and on...) But that's a whole 'nother thread!

The contract was basically that you wouldn't go back to where you work and teach it to the other therapists. The problem was that many of the spa's were sending therapists to learn LaStone and then train the other therapists when they get back. (I know this also happens with other modalities.)

I'm not sure about the present but when LaStone was the popular treatment at one time, the above mentioned situation was happening enough times that they created a little contract for the students to sign so they could take legal action if and when it did happen.

Really enjoyed the training as well, it was very thorough. Also appreciated the CEU hours. If you are a member of AMTA they will cover you if you accidently burn or injure someone only if you have the LaStone training. But with three days of training, that is hopefully an unlikely scenario.

My clients have enjoyed the hot/cool stones, even the ones who didn't think they would like the cool marble against their skin. And have heard many of the same compliments as Stone Girl.

Phenomenal Touch Hot Stone Massage

I am currently a student in the year-long course at the Institute for Phenomenal Touch Massage in Boulder, CO. As part of this course, we are trained in hot/cold stone massage. I have experienced other hot stone work prior to my becoming an IPTM student. Nothing that I experienced before comes close to the PTM stone work. It is far and away so incredibly superior to other techniques. Leslie Bruder's teaching of this method is totally amazing. The stones we use are all carefully chosen by Leslie and her staff, on rafting trips in Colorado. They are magnificent, and complement the PTM technique. If one were considering taking up hot stone massage, it would be well worth his/her time to check into IPTM and its offerings.

Hot stone/LaSone.

Hot stone workshops for the LaStone are very good. I have taken about 3 different workshops. I do like the one from Sacred Stone, in Fairfield, LA.
Karyn Chabot is a very good teacher. I’m hoping this year to go take her workshop.
I have found that you have been in turn with your teacher. Good luck!!
