Hot Stone Reflexology??

I'm fairly recently qualified in Reflexology and I've seen a short course in Hot Stone Reflexology advertised by Gateway Workshops.
Has anyone any experience of hot stone reflexology and can tell me more about it?

Hi Jupiter, I asked the same question a while back as I am also interested in doing a course in hot stone reflex. I was recommended a 1 day course at the Middlesex School of Complementary Therapy in Rickmansworth, it is a bit of a trot for me but I haven't found anywhere nearer so far. La Stone also run a course but although it sounds good and is 4 day long it is also a lot more expensive and I for one can't afford it at the moment. Here is the link to the Middlesex School.

I've been using hot stones in my practice for several years now. I prefer not to offer a full hour of hot stone Reflexology, I use them mostly at the end of the session (or in the beginning if the feet are very cold). They are incredibly popular with clients...even through the hot summers folks still want those hot stones on their feet.

A tip for the stones themselves - collect your own basalt stones at a beach that washes these kinds of stones up. Saves a bundle of money and you can actually collect the stones that *call* to you. I collect stones while on vacation from different parts of the world and use them in my sessions. It is really cool to share the stories of the stones with inquiring clients.

I've done that too barefootamy. I now have a wonderful elongated stone that is great for circling the chakra and acupressure points when doing head massage.

Barefootamy - can you tell me/us more about how you would run a session, I have considered doing a little hot stone massage to relax at the beginning but haven't done this yet...

for a hot stone reflexology, do your reflexology session.

then do a hot stone foot massage.

Put the cosy toes in and wrap foot up in a warm towel.

Can't imagine how else you would use the stones on the feet tbh.

Sure! I typically use the stones at the end of the session but have used them to help warm up cold feet at the beginning of a session or for spot work during a session. If you're just going to use them a little during the session add it to your warm up or cool down routine. Try using the stones with and without lotions/creams/oils to see which is preferable for your technique and style. Personally I think the hot stones without lubricant feels more in keeping Reflexology techniques intact as opposed to a foot massage.

Have you ever used other tools in a reflex session? Basically the stones are an extension of my hands and use them to stimulate the points just like I would with a knuckle. I'll have to do a video sometime because it is hard to explain a hands-on technique in words.

Any idea how I cna find a beach that washes up basalt stones have tried a google search but didnt get naytihng htat made any sense and am a bit stuck as I am no archeologist

I might be wrong here, but I am sure I was told that BASALT stones were stones that had been near volcanic heat.

Not much chance of that in doncaster.

if you read La stone therapy, Mary Nelson the founder of hot stone states that she had first been attracted to river stones then sea stone but found basalt stones retained the heat much better.

Steve - guruholistics is right, you need a volcanic source for the basalt stones. You could always try regular beach stones or river rocks...but they won't hold the heat as well. Any upcoming vacations to a former volcanic area? I collect stones practically everywhere I travel - some are useful in sessions others are simply nice sitting on the shelf on display.

y not many volcanoes round here but was close to the earthquake epicnetre the other year ( market rasen)

was thinking more of any places around the uk I know that the giants causway in ireland is basalt rocks but not planning on any visits there
but do get around the uk a bit

I'm qualified at hot stone and Reflexology - I was interested in combining the 2 and so I bought a dvd

I sourced it from a supplier on ebay. It gives a whole routine quite clearly!
I've only used it on friends at the moment because I've been concentrating on my ART stuff and didn't want to confuse things.
