We just recently brought a 3-year-old German Shepherd to our house and will possibly keep him. Our only problem is that we have 4 indoor/outdoor cats and one completely outdoor cat who refuses to go inside or be pet. I have heard that in order to introduce him we should put him in his crate and left them sniff each other. However, if he sees our cats inside from the outside doors he will freak out and start barking, scaring them away. I'm nervous that he's going to do this no matter how much we try to train him to be friendly to the cats. Is there any chance at all that we might be able to get him to work well with our cats or should we try finding ways to separate them permanently? Our cats have enjoyed free access to the outside along with complete freedom in the house and it upsets me that we might have to restrict that freedom.
