I need answers,I have to massage 2 liscensed thereapist .

I hope this is in the right place,if not please forgive me? I have to massage 2 liscensed therapist for class, the end of my first semester is ending. I am very nervous about calling up a therapist as not really sure what to say exactly.I hope that I can find someone with the time,as this is a busy time of year. We will be graded on this and I need to have this done by December 10th,which gives me plenty of time if I find the willing particapants.I have feedback forms for them to complete after the massage.I would like to know how this went for any of you that has done this already? I would also like to know what questions would you suggest I ask when I am calling therapists up for this? Thanks for any feedback that you give as I am kinda nervous about this,even though I know that I am prepared to do it. Also if anyone is in Boone,N.C. and would like to volunteer contact me please. I didn't have to do this when I was in school but I wouldn't sweat it. If I got a call from you I would JUMP at the chance. Just call and tell them who you are, where you're going to school, and what exactly you need to do. Ask if they'd be interested. If they're not, thank them for their time and move to the next call. They're people just like you and they might have had to do something like this when they were in school.

Wondering how you are making out. If you need a place to start, there is a "massage exchange" here on this site you could post to.

I am coming to the end of my 2-year program, and have to do something similar, working on any one of the technique teachers at our school with whom I've never had any classes. This will be my final assessment, and has me a bit on edge. Even though I feel confident in my technique, the thought of asking someone who I don't know at all and who knows the techniques I am supposed to be using thoroughly is kind of scary. I'm sure it will be fine, just like I'm sure yours will go fine. Just remember to breathe.

I don't have to do this but, I have had three different MTs offer to let me practice on them. And I do intend to take them up on it. What great feedback. I think on the whole MTs are a great group of people who love to help and share knowdldge. Don't be nervous. They where all in your postiton at one time.

Thanks for all the replys and encouragment from everyone. I guess I am just a little nervous which I know will pass as they have been in the same postition at some point. I know I will have no problem doing the massages. I am excited as the first semester is coming to an end,and we was told that the first semester was the hardest. I feel it must have been for some because we started our class with 21 and we now have 12 with the possibilty of maybe 2 more dropping. I was also wondering if anyone else had a turnover rate like that in there massage school ? Sorry to go off subject but I am curious. We started with 19 and lost one after the fist month. just found out after Turkey Day break we lost another. I am just starting my second term and I have to say the first was pretty intense. 1/4 of the way there though!

When I was in school we started with a class of 24. After the first day 2 girls quit cause they realized they would have to take test lol. Then a few more dropped for various reasons. One being a Vegan and just looking at muscles grossed her out. One girl passed away a few months into school (she was killed) that was rough none of our instructors thought the remainung 10 of us would make past that point with that happening. After that 1 more dropped out. Then at the end another classmate was killed. Left us in the end with 8.

I wish you lived by me I would letyou work on me. Heck I wish some of the students in the school by me would call me for something like that! Don't be nervous we were all in your shoes at one point or another. Plus they will give you the MOST honest feedback than anyone else. Good Luck!!!

We started with about 20, and are down to 13, which includes 3 people we picked up along the way. It's interesting how the class dynamic has changed since the beginning, especially coming down the home stretch. Along with the changes in personnel, it seems to me that people are feeling the pressure toward the end; the uncertainty of the "real world" awaiting us. I know I'm ready for it to be over, even though I'm not.

We started off with 40 students, and 27 graduated. We lost most of them after the first semester.

we started with 15.
one droped in the 1st week; she wasn't comfortable with it at all.
the 2nd dropped, because he collapsed a lung spontaneously. he returned a few months later and joined another class in progress.
the 3rd pulled a complete disappearing act after the halfway mark. we all thought something terrible had happened to her. we found out a week later that she dropped out and didn't want to talk to any of us. needless to say, we were stunned, and shocked. she was responsible for the entire tuition.

I went to school part time for a year, so I saw lots of classes. And yes, the drop out rate seems quite high.

From my original class, 15-18 started (just the night class, there were day classes too).

One dropped because his fingernails were too long and was horrified at the thought of trimming them! :shock: (I think he was only there because his girlfriend taught a class in a different department, and he was "encouraged" to take the class) This one always make me laugh, had to share!
One moved.
One got pregnant, returned and joined a different class later.
Most just disappeared!
I think a couple joined the day class instead.
We picked up one along the way.


When all was said and done, students that actually graduated... 4. :?

i'm surprised to see that not many people had to work on professional mt's. when i was in school we had to work on 10. and we could only work on the same person twice. that meant at least seeing 5 different therapists. nayinbavarian, don't be nervous at all. the moment you begin to tell them who you are, they'll know what you're talking about and what you need them for. most will jump at the chance. they should all be nice to you and if not, write them off as not nice people and move on. it's a really great way to get some feedback on your work. don't be offended if they give you comments you didn't expect. take it and learn from it. have fun! wish you were near me!

I started with a class of 20 women and when all was said and done I think 10 of us graduated together. I think we might have had a drop-out or two but what we had a lot of was people not graduating into the next semester. So, like I said, the oringal classmates that graduated together was about 10.

We didn't have to work on prof. mt's when I was in school. I remember we had a paper to do about different modalities. We had to interview prof. mt's about their work. That was cool. We did have to do a 24 hour externship at a prof. place of business. Some of us had good places and some of us had bad places (one being at a truck stop!!!) I worked with a woman who is now my supervisor and director of our entire facility. She is a NMT and I learned a lot from her. I also worked in a salon/day spa setting and learned that (NO OFFENSE ANYONE) that I don't ever want to work in a salon setting of that type. Those women were mean, rude, and so gossipy!

Thanks for all the answers and help. I would like to say I meet a really great person through this experience who just happens to be a massage therapist. She is amazing and has offered herself to be of help to me at any time, I was so happy to have been given her name from another therapist that was real busy. I also had someone else lined up, made the appointment, the day before even got a confirmation call to make sure I was going to be there. I show up and to my disappointment I was told the therapist could no longer do it that day,I could reschedule if I needed to.I probally would have been okay with the cancelation if only I would have atleast gotten a phone call to tell me about it. I guess I got irritated because I took the time to get dressed and drive to his place of business which is about 20 minutes from my house. Oh well you win some you lose some. I thank everyone for their encouragement and support .
