Incident in Tiger Disco

Went to Tiger Disco last nite with my two friends after a few drinks in Suzy's, MTB, Guitar, Baccara and Lion Bar - place was busy - one of my friends needed to use the gents - as he was washing as usual the guy tries to massage his neck/back - my friend politely asked him to stop but this guy ignored him and carried on with the massage - after asking twice again to stop my friend pushed him backwards at which point the guy punched him smack in the face - blood everywhere - my friend now has broken nose and deep gash on his lip that will need stitches (he is at hospital as I write this) - the toilet guy ran off - two minutes later guy in suit comes and apologises - says the guy has been sacked on the spot - gave my friend a Tiger T shirt to replace his own blood stained one and asked him for 250bht for it !! Unbelievable
Not a great start to our 5 nites here

amazing!!!!! I must have used that toilet over 200 times and had the massage guy approach me every time.Never once did I get punched in the face.
I had the massages they give there and i have to say they are sensational. A 20 or 50bt tip is always appreciated by the massage guy but you sure dont have to do it everytime. A wave, a smile and a polite no thanks usually does the trick.
I wonder how many guys have been past the massage guy before he decided to punch someone in the face? 1,000 mmmm 10,000? 50,000?
Some guys just attract bad luck.

Where does it say that the farang aggressively attacked the guy? So what, does the farang have to accept being massaged whether he likes its or not? My take is that basically the farang got physical first. Im not sure there is really anyplace in the world where you shove someone and expect that 100% of the time the guy is not going to come back at you physically. I know now that I am back in my normal neck of the woods in the SF bay area, there would even be some chance that shoving someone in a clubs restroom could get you killed. Not that a broken nose or worse is justified, just sayin, you push someone, you never know what your gonna get.

Well I'm going out on a not popular limb and saying I'm all for the thai massuers action. Some foriegn guy comes into the toilet, you start to do your job, he says something in a foriegn langage you have no idea about, you try again and he agressively pushes you for apparently no reason, deserves a good smack in my opinion. Good old somchai, shame he got sacked.

Now I wonder if I can get his phone number and offer the guy a job???

None of us were there so we don't know how hard the farang pushed the toilet massuer. What is clear is that he was asked to stop and did not, What is also clear is that his reaction to be pushed away (how do you know it was aggressive?) is that a good punch was thrown causing a broken nose.

My opinion is that the Thai guy was out of order. Your opinion is different.

Now i'm not the most patient bloke in the world, with lets just say a short fuse, now if i'm in an entertainment area and someone pushed me, breaking the blokes nose isn't exactly the answer is it. I've taken all kinds of crap when i've been out but it takes more of a man to diffuse a situation by walking away than physical violence, especially in a foreign country and a corrupt one like Thailand.

Fact is here, and all us expats know, give a Thai bloke the slightest excuse to plant one on a farang and he'll jump at the chance. This thai bloke knew exactly what he was doing, he's a shithouse massage douche, i'm sure he's heard the word "stop" 1000's of times but exploited the excuse to throw a cheap shot.

Look, nobody was there first hand to witness so its gonna be a thread of your word/opinion against the next mans. Does surprise me though how quick some of you are to feel sorry for the thai blokes in these situations. Just cos its their country doesn't give them the right to go breaking peoples noses.

Its an International destination so maybe it wouldn't do any harm to teach workers in these tourist areas basic English, like "stop" "no" then these confrontations could be avoided.........yeah right !!!!!

Simon everything in your post is correct and how we would behave, except how do you react if aggresively pushed for trying to do your job?

The nose break is incidental, not a main point here, he was pushed, he hit back. Wrong for an employee? YES, the employer acted correctly and sacked him, YES, but for an employee from where? England?, do not mix standards and etiquette of the western world with that of the East. Thais are taught from young, someone pushes, hits or whatever physical to you, you react with greater physical reaction.

We all know that the guy here only needed to say no firmly, maybe two times and it would stop. If not, does it deserve an aggresive push to stop it? if yes then can this action not cause a reaction?

I don't feel sorry for the Thai bloke, nor justify ever striking someone for no reason, however he was accosted first and this isn't England.

Personally I really do dislike these toilet massage guys. Some of them are annoyingly persistent at times, and continue even after I ask them 2 or 3 times --- as politely as possible --- to stop. So yes, in my opinion that constitutes “harassment”.

Tell him “no” once then that’s ok. If he continues, then he is clearly not doing his job. Simple as that.
