Introducing a new cat to a small apartment?

I'm getting a new cat. I haven't picked it out yet. I'm going to my local SPCA next weekend.
I've had cats most of my life but I've never introduced one to a small apartment. I know the idea of keeping the kitty in one room and letting them get used to that one room before the rest of the house.... but I've only got two rooms... Do you think it would be all right to let the kitty get used to the whole place at once?

what i did when i got a 6 week old kitten and we added him into the family we were living in a small townhouse. i think getting used to the house room by room would be the best approach.that's what we did...we isolated him to the bedroom( i.e. we put his litter box,toys, and bed in one room) and then after about a month we introduced him to the rest of the house..the cat is comfortable around you after about a month so they know that you won't get mad at them for exploring...so their natural instinct is to go exploring...they will run around and occasionally check in with you, just to make sure that you are still okay with them exploring. Try that.

unless you find a very adventurous cat, he's going to be timid at first. it's better to put him/her in the smaller of the two rooms so that he feels less threatened. he will soon feel calm enough to sniff around (hopefully). if all goes well, you will be able to let him into the next room in a matter of hours.
