I had my first professional (I think) massage yesterday. my girlfriend (who is a massage therapist herself) wanted to treat me to a couples massage with her so she booked an appointment at a new place that had a $70 promotional deal for couples. We went there, it was run by Asians who barely spoke English and did not give us any kind of form to fill out upon entering (which my girlfriend says is illegal), but we still went through with it... I was somewhat satisfied with my massage, but my girlfriend did not like hers at all and decided because of that, she would pay for mine, but not hers. I told her I didn't like that because if she had a problem with the massage she should have said something during the massage and not wait until the hour is over to complain about it... and I said we paid for the service, and received the full service (1 hour) therefore we are responsible for paying... you don't go to a restaurant and not pay just because you didn't like their food. At any rate... I felt it was morally wrong and possibly illegal NOT to pay them so... I ended up paying for my own "gift" (and trust me I was pissed off because of that plus her tendency to be a drama queen when I'm such a laid back live and let live easy going person and I just say 'why make life so damn difficult all the time')... Well, she had ran off and walked away (to "walk home" even though all guys know that's a threat that never actually happens) in extreme anger, but I hold my position that we were responsible for paying because we received the full service and she did not complain during the service, only afterwards... during the service when the guy asked "YOU OK?" she would reply "YES" (and that is why the guy was so shocked afterwards; he was under the impression she enjoyed the massage and honestly so was I... and I know her very well and usually can read her dissatisfaction in situations). Anyway, my question is... had we walked out without paying? Would that have been illegal? In addition to not giving us forms to fill out, I have a suspicion that these people are not licensed, when my girlfriend asked them for the name of the school they were certified at, the guy replied "Oakland" (which is a city) and he also hesitated big time... If I find out they are not licensed, I believe at that point I ask for a refund, but at that particular time, we received a service, and were morally and LEGALLY(?) responsible for paying for it... Is the latter part of my assumption true? would it have been illegal to walk out despite everything mentioned?
