Lafuma Recliner - Padded or Batyline

Hi All

I have just joined this site although I have been using it as a guest for about a year (just never got round to registering!!) and have always found the discussions informative and enjoyable. I'm hoping someone will be able to help me with my query.

I'm looking at buying a Lafuma Recliner but can't make my mind up between the padded version & the batyline. I've sat in a batyline and they are comfortable, but I wasn't sure if the padded would be better for reflexology treatments. I've looked at past discussions and noted that lots of you have the Lafuma.

Hope someone can give me a bit more insight - unfortunately, no-one stocks them locally so I am going to have to order over internet - hence cannot view both before I buy.

I got a padded one about a week ago and it's brilliant! I got a sleeper on the first treatment! Really is comfy. Both look pretty good though. I'm pleased with the one I got. Go with what feels right for you though.

I got a really good deal from a garden centre who are on Ebay if you're looking for a good deal, chair and cover and delivery for under 100. Really pleased with the speed of service too. Another friend of mine bought one last week and got it for 50 quid.. It had only been used a couple of times.

I've got the type with no padding. It's oatmeal colour with wooden armrests and silver metalwork - It looks very nice and is just as comfy as the padded type.

The advantage of this type is that it's wipe clean (not that I wipe it that often)

Disadvantages are it can be a bit cold but a fleece cover sorts that one out.

Just as a word of caution - someone I know recently had a lafuma collapse under a client who weighed about 17 stones. Apparently Lafuma do not recommend their recliners for reflexology and using them for reflexology invalidates the warranty. This could also mean that should you try to make an insurance claim your insurance company may want to know why you're using a chair 'unsuitable for business'. The weight limit for a lafuma recliner is apparently 16 stones. I have a portaped which I use with very heavy clients. I also use a portaped with ladies who are heavily pregnant as the shape of the lafuma means that if a lady who is very heavily pregnant sits in it the weight of the baby could press on her major arteries and cause her to become very dizzy or even feint.

Just a bit of a warning.

Thanks Gussie & Sulis. Still haven't made up my mind but your comments have helped. Always have been bad at making decisions!!!

I have been looking on ebay and there are a couple of good deals. I do want a stool and carry case as well so I think it's prob best to buy from a supplier then I only have one lot of postage to pay, else I could end up spending on postage what I save on the recliner.

I've got one the same as Sulis. batylene, I find the arm rests are too hard and you can give your elbow a whack on them. I use a fleecy blanket on it as it can be cold. Also some clients with back problems need a bit more support.

I am going to get a padded one when I can afford it.

Mine collapsed when I sat in it on holiday Thank goodness it wasn't a client. Its fine though, tightened all the nuts.

Sulis, I've treated lots of heavily pregnant women in my chair and they love it, no complaints. I always get them up slowly anyway.

Thanks for your reply Jan, I have actually decided on the padded version and have placed my order today. I had originally wanted the navy padded version, but when I saw the seigle batyline I liked the colour, thought it looked more restful and would match my room better, but being sensible, the main reason I'm getting one is for when I have to do mobile and therefore, the colour doesn't really matter the comfort is priority!!

Thanks again to all who replied and I'll let you know how I get on with it. Got a really good deal, recliner, stool, carry case and bolster plus delivery all for under £140.

Eeep I hope noones recliners collapsed.. seems a low weight restriction to place on them seeing as half the males in this country are that or more. I'd feel gutted to have to ask someone their weight before making a decision to let them have a comfy treatment.. I don't wanna have to say oh you're too heavy for the nice recliner.. seems so mean!

Incidentally, if they're not meant for reflexology, how come they come with a stool?

They are officially garden or camping furniture - I presume that's why they do stools too.

The IIR have stopped selling Lafumas in their shop for this very reason. Quite worrying I think.

Just received delivery of my Lafuma - so glad I chose the padded one it's great. Will be doing my first treatment on it tomorrow.

Sorry I didn't read it properly....

My teacher at college uses a Lafuma so might ask her her opinion about it and see what she does... Might look into getting a couch for the heavier people but how do you go about asking people's weight??

Someone who is over 16 stone is pretty noticeable, but I don't see why asking someone their weight is a problem. Ask it along with height and it just becomes a standard question.

Many massage couches have weight restrictions too, so I am not at all surprised that the Lafuma has one. Many couches are only designed for beauty treatments and light massage, so if I were to do a deep sports treatment and it collapsed, I would invalidate my warranty too.

Insurance is always the stumbling block and I think in the real world we just have to apply a bit common sense.
