Linens - Service for Cleaning

I am wondering if you use a linen service or take care of your own laundering. I really wonder how much hassle it is to do all that extra laundry. I have 3 children at home and do plenty of washing just with them. One of my instructors, actually the school director, suggested a linen service. What do you all think?

I use a service and love it, but I have a busy practice. If all you were doing was a few session a day then I would say do it your self.

Thanks Randi, what do you consider a busy practice?How many seesions per week?  I just finished school and am relocating to Idaho (back home) so I will be just starting out. But, I am looking at the initial expense of buying all the supplies and then having to wash everyday when things pick up. So I wonder if it would be more cost effective to do the linen service and just up my sheet count as things pick up?

When I worked at my last salon, I was lucky enough to work next door to a very friendly, family-owned dry cleaning & laundry service. I went in to meet the guy & he did my laundry free for a week in exchange for a one hour gift certificate for his wife. After that week (as he got to know roughly how much laundry I was going through), he came up with an offer. They ended up charging me half price. Laundry was priced per pound there... my heavy bath sheet-sized towels are heavy!Anyway, it was really nice to go in to work & pick up my clean, folded laundry & drop off my dirty linens at the end of each day. It was expensive, I suppose, but I was very busy at that salon, and I loved NOT having to do the laundry haul & chore each day.

Superspagirl, I think if you can afford the service, then it's one less thing for you to think about.  But if you're going to rent a space and can have a washer and dryer on-premise, I say go with that considering you're just starting out.  If you can do small loads during the day, the washer and dryer will soon pay for itself and you won't have to drag laundry home every night.  If you are planning to bring it home, see how it works out and go from there.  When you first start, the less expenditures you make the better as you can bank the savings for those inevitable slow/rainy days! I have a client's son who is 17 do my laundry.  He is very active in karate and is always very sore...and very broke.  He does all my laundry and in return I give him two massages a month.  This way i dont spend all my off time doing laundry!  Works out real good for me.

I don't know how old your children are, but you can pay them to do it and then it's another thing you can write of on your taxes.

I have used a linen service in the past and wasnt too into them. sometimes the sheets would have stains and foot prints on them from the driver. you can always just take them to a laundry mat- maybe one near an arcade or some place that you can hang out with your kids while its washing. that way all of your sheets get washed at the same time and you get to spend time with your kids. just a thought.

I have a linen service and I wouldn't ever go back.  I cost me about $110 a month.  It's worth every penny.  I have 3 kids and my washer and dryer is always in use.  The last thing I want to do is a bunch more laundry and I certainly don't want to waste my precious time sitting in a laundry mat.  I would at least try it.  You can cancel it anytime if you aren't satisfied.
