Don't know to be honest, kick out times at the pub is when all the fighting starts, police sit outside our local now to stop trouble after some lad ended up in hospital with brain damage. Sad really.

I have been looking at the Mai Thai bar webcam quite a few times at many times between 10 pm and 2 am local time over the last few weeks and the bar looks very quiet. For BMs there, is this normal for this time of the year or is it particularly unusual. Is it busy on Bangla generally. I will now be in Patong for the first week of October, arriving the 1st. This is the same time I have been before and it was, what I thought, was busy - though not as busy as the Christmas afterwards, three years ago.

Never understood the logic in that. Would it not be simpler just to group all the incomes together and tax that as a single (declaration of) income.

Never mind, I work in IT and am used to things having some kind of logic.

Talked about this with an Italian bar owner a while ago, he told me a lot of bars have a mascot girl, just for fun and to keep the spirits up during quiet moments.

It is low season, i was there last month, although Bangla Road was just as busy when i went back in March, the Sois were alot quieter. People say different kind of tourist are coming to Patong now. Mai Thai Bar was always the busiest bar in Soi Eric most of the time.

Well that does happen through a year end return but UK also operates PAYE: Pay as You Earn which means tax is duducted from your earnings by your employer as you earn. only one employer can hold your tax free allowances. The year end process reconciles your total earnings and tax caluclated on that and adjusts for any tax payments made through PAYE

Doen't seem to bode well if MTB is the busiest bar on Soi Eric and judging from the webcam they only have a couple of people in at the best of times. The other bars must have zero then.

If I understand correctly,

You pay the extrapolated tax rate of each salary and you get back any tax you've overpaid when you file your tax return.

Based on my (very limited) knowledge of the AU system, the extrapolated tax is paid out of each pay period (I.E if you earn 1000 one week, they'll tax that as if you earned 52,000 a year even if you only earn 40,000 p/a) but you get back the excess at tax time.

What type of tourist is it now then? If Mai Thai bar was the busiest in Soi Eric and has about 2 people in it and where staff out-number the customers, the other bars must have no one in?

A yank in my pub would be welcomed. He might have the p1ss taken a bit but he'd be fine as long as he wasn't one of those gobby Texan types. Although thinking about it if the word "soccer" was mentioned he might get a punch in the bracket.

yeah its the same in Oz.
with the second job you get taxed at the higher rate with the PAYG but at the end of the year the total amount of tax is calculated from your total income and taxed accordingly.

the main reason the first job pays less tax is because there is a tax free threshold (was $6k) that is crossed before any tax is due and then there is a sliding scale where you pay more the more you earn.
all of this is then exhausted for the second job so you start at the top rate.

Couples, young farangs - people not going down the sois.

Some nights were alot busier than the others, but were always people around. Alot of the bars were empty alot of the time in Soi Eric.

The go gos seemed just as busy in March though.
