A man has been arrested for his involvement in a violent crime at the Asian Massage parlor, where he allegedly threatened and assaulted two employees, creating terror and chaos last September.
Didier Emmanuel Gamble, 25, faces serious charges including armed sexual battery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, armed robbery, and simple battery. According to police reports, the incident occurred on the night of September 16, 2024, at approximately 10 p.m. at the massage parlor along 167th Street near First Avenue.
On the night of the attack, Gamble reportedly entered the parlor asking about massage prices. After receiving the information, he followed one of the employees to the massage room, where the situation escalated drastically. Armed with a box cutter, he allegedly placed it to the victim’s neck, pulled down his pants, and demanded she perform oral sex.
Though initially complying with his demands, the victim managed to find the courage to flee when she noticed Gamble appearing increasingly relaxed. Tragically, during her escape attempt, he slashed her neck with the box cutter, inflicting serious injury. The victim managed to lock herself inside another room, seeking safety from her assailant.
A second victim, hearing the screams for help, rushed to assist but was not spared from Gamble’s brutal attack. Eyewitness accounts indicate she was violently shoved against the wall as Gamble punched her repeatedly. The assailant went as far as biting her ear and arm, severing part of her earlobe before he fled the scene, allegedly with her cellphone taken as spoils of his violent rampage.
Fortuitously, surveillance footage captured the suspect’s actions during and after the attack, which became instrumental for the investigation as it allowed authorities to release images of Gamble to the public. Witnesses recognized him from the footage, leading to tips for the police. Remarkably, some evidence even came from within Gamble's own circle; relatives reportedly identified him after viewing the video where he was seen entering and leaving the business.
Following several months of investigation, Gamble was eventually apprehended on December 2024, near NE 160th Terrace and North Miami Avenue. During his arrest, he denied all allegations, maintaining his innocence throughout the questioning process. Presently, he is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond.
The harrowing experiences of the victims brought to light by Local 10 News underline the psychological and physical trauma inflicted during the crime. One of the victims recounted the attack's horrific nature, stating: "He takes my ear… scared… box cutter," clearly demonstrating the lasting impact of such violent events.
Authorities have indicated the severity of the charges against Gamble, highlighting the potential legal ramifications as he faces court proceedings. His next appearance was initially rescheduled for Thursday, aiming to address the charges linked to the violent incident.
This case echoes broader concerns surrounding the safety and protection of workers within the massage and wellness industry, particularly for women enduring threats of violence. Such incidents raise significant questions about security measures and the culture of exploitation faced by employees working behind closed doors, often unprotected from dangerous individuals.
The arrest of Didier Gamble serves as both relief for the affected victims and a grim reminder of the dangers lurking within seemingly safe environments. It is hoped this incident will catalyze discussions about ensuring safety protocols and support for those working at massage parlors and similar establishments, creating spaces where employees feel secure and protected from potential threats.
