massage therapy questions?

I plan on becoming a masseur but at the moment I'm only a sophomore so I still have a few years and I have a few questions.


1. I've read where you don't go to college but some kind of school. Is that true?

2. What's the average length it takes to become one?

3. If I do become one what is a good starting price? I was thinking $55-60 an hour. Would that be fair?

If I come up with any more questions can I also e-mail you them?

2. What's the average length it takes to become one? i was in school for ten months....some schools are shorter some are longer

Would that be fair? usually u get commission...my first job was 60% of whatever i took in( example a swedish massage was 55$ i made 33$...all massages are different lengths and prices), and that is very good, most places are 50%... how much you make really depends on where u work, the prices of massage, ur percentage and how busy the place is

You should use the term "massage therapist" as opposed to "masseur." Massage Therapist is the term that is more generally respected in a professional setting.

1. Massage therapy schools are different from most standard college programs.

2. You will need to check your state's requirements. Each state requirements are a little different. The program I attended was 600 hours, while other states require less or more. I went to school 3 nights a week for 4 hours at a time for a year.

3. The price for massage is determined by the area of the country that you are in. Keep in mind that even if you charge $60 per hour of massage that is not your take home pay. You will have expenses, insurance, advertising costs and self employment tax. $60 an hour sounds great on paper, but it isnt nearly that much in the end.
