I'm would like to travel to Moscow and am wondering on what sort of room can I get for 100.00 per night in Moscow, as close to Red Square as possible.

Since you're from Boston I'm assuming you mean US dollars. Moscow can be kind of an expensive city, so I wouldn't count on being able to stay at any of the chain hotels you're probably familiar with, especially if you want to be close to such a big tourist area.

I know at the Moscow Marriott for instance they're charging about 10,500 rubles for a room, which comes out to be around $450.00. So you can kind of scale your expectations down from there in regards to what kind of room you're getting. A quick check on Google comes up with this site: Moscow Hotels

The only place in Moscow you can get an ok room for about 100 US dollars a night is at Izmailovsky park around 16 minutes with the metro from Red Square. There are 4 big hotels there that was made for teh 1980 olympics for the participents. The hotels are called Vega, Alfa, Beta and Gamma. I have stayed at the Vega a few times and if one is on a budget (not paid for by work) then it is adequate but not much more. It is a 2 star I guess, maybe 2,5. Rooms are clean though.....
but service is SHIT.

If you intend to spend about USD 100 per night, then I fear you will sleep underneath one of the bridges of the Moskwa River. And probable the one a bit further away from the center.

Moscow now is rated one of the most expensive cities in the world and more or less on the same level as Tokyo. Depending on your plans once you're in the city, I suggest you check on an organized tour with one of your local travel shops. If not available, then you will end up for reasonable hotel rooms starting around USD 250 or more.

If you want to stay near the Red Square, you should double the price. Good luck.

I did the backend for a Russian bride site for a few years. Never went to the FSU but picked up a few tidbits.

There are companies-- more like, people with spare bedrooms-- who contract with the matrimonial sites. Offer package deals, car, translator/driver, guide service, all reasonable. No one says they HAVE to include a constant procession of young, educated, shapely, mini-skirted, stiletto-heeled sexpots.

Google Russian Brides and start clicking and emailing. The entire industry is feeling the pinch like everyone else and would likely welcome the action. Would send you to the cat for whom I worked but he retired and his site is no more.

It is now around 130 US dollars for the cheapest rooom and they do call themselves a 3 star hotel.

except for the post saying that moscow is expensive and the one telling about the marriage services who usually have rooms handy, the rest of the posts is ignorant bullshit.

Prices for hotel rooms and h**kers went totally out of control.

Depending on how long you want to stay, I would advise you to stay in an apartment you rent.

There are several agencies like euroapartments.ru who can rent apartments with pricings between 60 and 300 EUR a night.
One such agency is run by "moscow rick", who is an american guy. Beware of the sales pitch though.
For about 100 EUR a night you can expect to stay in a clean apartment near the center (3 or 4 metro stations away).
For better location near the center, count between 140 and 180 EUR (still much cheaper than a hotel).

An apartment is also better than a hotel, because most hotels will not let you go in your room with a h**ker, or will ask for extra money.

If you need to be near the center, there are apartments in nice streets like bolchaia nikitskaia, which is just a short walk away from the famous "nightflight" h**kers nightclub.
Warning: quality is good, service is average, and prices are steep (7000 Rub for a night, about 3000 / 4000 for 2 hours)

The Boarhouse is long gone it is now called Hotdogs. not a good idea
real nasty group hang out there. The famous manger that also had a
place called the hungry Duck.

I haven't been in Moscow for exactly a year now, sorry for the bad info about Boarhouse. Kind of sad, it was sometimes possible to find drunk sluts there who would do it for free :-(

Still, just get an apartment and forget about hotels.
