Iโm not clear as to why you are trying to compress a contracting muscle?
If you are using a โsoft tissue releaseโ technique, then it should be the antagonist muscle that is contracting, and the muscle you are treating should be relaxing and being stretched. If you are giving a basic therapeutic massage, then the muscle you are treating should be in a relaxed state. In general, if a client contracts any of his/her muscles in response to a massage stroke, it is an indication that the therapist is either working too quickly or applying too much pressure.
