muscle release therapy
I just went to Michael Young's workshop this past weekend in San Francisco. It was AMAZING!! I am convinced!! This is wonderful work. I felt amazing after the workshop. The work is definately NOT fluff and puff massage. It works the cause of a person's problem (tight, shortened muscles) by putting the muscle through a stretch. It does bring about wonderful results. In my case I had a shoulder that had been bothering me for 9 months (due to a fall from up high)and with one stretch Michael taught, I felt IMMEDIATE relief afterwards. It was INCREDIBLE!! I now have full range of motion like before. I do continue to do self stretches though since this is key to maintaing long healthy muscles. As far as the technique being easy on the therapist, YES!! That is what he teaches, "working smarter, not harder". I am a tiny 5'2 therapist, so if I can do it it cannot be that difficult. About the only thing I can say is I feel like I need to practice a lot of it BEFORE I do it on the clients, but that is just me. I have been practicing this week on the hubbie and family and when I feel real comfortable with the stretches I am planning on incorporating them. There is TONS of information to absorb. Even Michael says, "you won't remember half of what you are shown". So I recommend purchasing the DVD's if you go to one of his workshops, I did and am SO GLAD. I have been referencing them already since I got home. It is amazing how much you forget (proper stretch, body mechanics, etc.) I would DEFINATELY recommend this class. I plan on attending again in the future when he comes around this way again. I truly believe this will change my practice, I have a fellow therapist friend who went with me, it was her second time. She mentioned it has really increased business. If you really want to make a difference in your clients health, GO FOR IT. I feel that to date, it is the best continuing education class I have taken, and well worth the money. If you only implemented a small portion of this technique, it would set you apart. But if you are only interested in relaxation massage, this is probably NOT what you are looking for.Keep me posted on what you do. Health to you.Julie
