Opinions on course please

Hello,

I want to start a course this autumn and was torn between IHM and reflexology. I've decided to go with reflexology as the more main stream option, to compliment the Reiki I have started doing.

I have found this reflexology course close to me which claims to be fully acredited etc but would like opinions as to whether it actully is a credible course or not? I'd hate to find afterwards that it isn't worth the paper it's written on.

Whatever course you are going to undertake you must make sure that you can get insurance to practice having undertaken the course. Contact one of the following insurance providers to check they will be able to insure you having completed this course and this will give you the answer in seconds, if they will not insure you it is not worth undertaking the course as you can not practice, ring
Balens
The FHT, i am with them and find them helpful.
There are also other places that someone on here may be able to advise you about.
Ring today, find out and put your mind at rest. Most insurance companies will have a list of accredited course providers that they are happy to insure you if you have undertaken their course, others may not be up to the same standard. What is the course you want to do, others may have completed it on here and be able to comment further.

Why did i not think of ringing the insurance company? Doh!! I am already with Balens for my reiki..will contact them and see what they say..thank you

Had a look at this course online. It's difficult to say whether it is worth while, because it does have some sort of standard to it. At least it has a considerable amount of contact time training and case studies with an end of course assessment. My concern would be will it as a qualification hold up in the big wide world where standards are rising (so it has been said) and a drive towards Voluntary Self-Regulation (if that is important to you or not). From what I can see organisations like the CMA and the GHT will accredit almost anything, so that doesn't mean much. The course could be good and it could be bad. I think you need to delve into this a bit deeper. Ask them this question: does this course at least is mapped to National Occupational Standards for reflexology? and see what they say.

Thought i'd post a quick update to say i heard back today from my insurance company Balens, and they are happy to insure me on the back of this course, so that is something at least.

The first thing I saw when looking at that website was 1: such bad spelling - Saterlite Training Centre - thats not a typo, thats bad spelling ; Refelxology - ok, that could be a typo, but still.....

Next, they offer hands on therapies in reflex and massage...by distance learning....no respectable professional association will accept these qualifications, and the regulator certainly doesnt.

RP is correct when he says CMA and GHT will accredit almost anything, well they will if you pay them....fill in your form, send them your cheque, and hey presto...college accreditation! No checking of standards, no checking if it is an actual bona fide college, as long as they pay their money, they get accredited.

IPTI and Balens will just about insure everyone too......

unfortunately for us genuine therapists....there are a lot of people out there who make it easy for people to do a shoddy course, and get insured, which usually leads to the profession getting a bad name...

By the way, its interesting to see that some of these 'professional associations' are run from the owners homes, and not even from an office...shoddy!

Well..

having listened..and researched more myself, i have found a college near me (proper further ed college!), offering level III dip. 36 weeks starting 16th sept.

i have spoken to them on the phone and now sent my application in..fingers crossed they accept me and i can sort childcare at such short notice..eek!

apologies for any typos etc..got apoorly child on my knee and typing one handed!

I did post on here before but its disappeared (?)

Im actually going to be doing a reflex course, as the feet are fascinating!

I checked to see if mine was accepted by CNHC, and it is (im doing a CFE one), so you may want to check the same.

Most CFEs are accepted by CNHC.
