If you are not a happy person. Get a pet.

How many members here own pets?. Any funny stories you want to share?. I have 2 kids and a dog that makes them smile every day. But it does cost me money to feed and maintain her. All worth it.

Hey, it's common knowledge that pets, dogs especially, reduce blood pressure and stress levels. I forget what they call them but there are many programs where people are encouraged to bring pets into nursing homes and hospitals for the infirm to interact with......

My mother took her two shit tzus in for training and went weekly to visit some local hospitals. The patients loved them......one was a real character and would run around amusing them and the other loved to just sit in their laps and be petted for hours......

Rarely do I agree with tboy, but it's a yes on this issue.

As a youngster, my parents took retired service dogs in. We had 4 altogether, two at one time. No training required. Great gaurdians and friends. Recently, I brought a puppy home (malshi) born March 11/2011, this little guy is priceless. He has become the neighbourhood therapy dog and hangs out with a pitbull, dob/rotti mix, bulldawg, 2 huskies, 3 boxers, Burmesse Mountaindog and his sister lives around the corner.

He's had his final shots so that I can take him into residences as a therapy dog. He certainly brings a smile to me daily.

There is a service where you can volunteer and have your cat or dog as a service animal for nursing homes and people with autism

Stray cats have a way of coming up to me and asking me for help it seems.

Just can't resist and always give in.

One was visibly limping and had an infected eye and was only 4 lb's but when I petted him you could hear the purring from 10 ft away easy. Cost me $800 to fix him up but had him for 13 years. Took him everywhere with me, cottages,girlfriends houses,car rides. Would follow me wherever I went. Nearly killed me when I saw the light go out in his eyes when I was holding him as he passed but it was more than worth it.

The only downside is that you can only have your pet for 10-14 years. My dog passed away at 11 and cannot bear to go through the pain of death again.
