Police closed Bangla at 02 am tonight

[I hate Peugeot]

For the first time in years, police closed Bangla at 02:00 am tonight.

We will see if this is just a temporary thing when high police is here or if it is something that will last.

Bangla and Sansabai was very crowded at this time as all the bars closed same time.

It is pretty striaght forward to me way the bars closed early the other night!

It was a symbol of me leaving THailand wasn't it! Kind of flying the flag at half mast! A mark of respect!!!!!!!

When I get back, the bars will have no closing time...........:cheers:

… But seriously --- as has been said before --- if the MiB enforced the law to the letter, all “entertainment venues” would have to close at 1 AM inside the “zones” and midnight for the ones outside. That’s the law.

Of course, if this law HAD been enforced, the majority of the bars would’ve folded. Guess my point is that IMO the latest crackdown is nothing more than a “show of force” (from Bangkok?). Fact is that if most bars had to close at midnight, the nightlife in Phuket would die. Simple as that.

Gee, even my dad would be pissed (erm... not pissed) if he was forced to stop drinking at midnight...

2 am is fime by me.i usually start around 9 and that leaves me with 5 hours drinking..plenty of time to get drunk and to have fun with the members.........

be prepared for a bit later start in patong geogre bkk bars fire up earlier than patong..and if you are a really early starter like you said could be sitting on a bar stool all by your lonesome for a while talkin to the cashier

Absolutely. Part of the problem is you have people jetting in from all sorts of different time zones. 24 hour party works a lot better in that situation. Vegas doesn't close at 1am, nor should phuket.

Problem is not rule of law but rule of the day.

Everyone in phuket, officials included understands the issue. But they are powerless to do anything but enforce this moving target. They cut some more slack when they can, tighten things up when they must. Just have to roll with it.

Perhaps one day Thailand will decentralize and Phuket will have some control over laws. Perhaps once again Thailand will have an elected government...

TO be honest it wont effect me i am very rarely still out drinking at later than 2.30 am so half an hour wont make ant dif to me at about 1.30 am my mind starts to drift to the better things i could be doing back at my room , and as someone says stay out on the drink till 5am and you wont get up (without viagra) before about 2pm next day what a waste of a holiday i get back to my room not only in patong but everywhere in los around 2.30 am and no matter how drunk i am i am still at the pool about 9am sit there all morning and then either go back to bed around 4.30pm for 3 hours or go to valhalla or now hells bells .

I have no problem either way but would just like consistency so I can plan my evening, hate going out at 10 then finding the bars are being shut at 2am, before you say it, yes it is the rules but just wish they would be consistent in either ingnoring them or enforcing them

Well these are the official closing times.
If this sticks (which it won`t), just go out 2 hours earlier for same drinking time. Or am I missing something?

I would have to agree with Talbotman :cheergal:
Why on earth would you want to waste most of the daylight hours nursing a hangover on holiday :mad2:
holidays are for a limited time only. If i was an expat living there then maybe I would have a gripe. but surely at 3am in the morning there couldn't be something else better to do ? :love:

I reckon (heard ) was BKK MiB driven - the Golf brought a lot of pooyai and of course high profile golfers and visitors to Phuket ... now would not want all those roughian so and so's on Bangla to stay open late now would we chaps! (Just was to appease the powers that be - hopefully back to normal - all in all the local officials realise the needs of tourists from wider cross section of society/cultures).
