Hello I'm new but have browsed these pages many a time. I'd really like someadvice.

Been trying for 2nd child for 1.5 yrs, son is almost 4. I started fertility reflexology last Sept and became pg 2nd cycle, unfortunately ended in an early m/c (18 dpo). Became pg 12 days after that but this was a blighted ovum and I had a surgical m/c at 3 mths. 2nd cycle reflex again and have my 3rd m/c, again an early one. My reflexologist is successful with fertility but she hasn't really had any cases like mine. After a mth of weekly visits we normally do the treatments around ov time. I'd heard of someone having acupuncture and their appts were around ov but also around implantation time too. I'm going to try this but I wondered if there are any reflexologists who have had practical experience of treating recurrent miscarriages and if there was any advice given the above info? I have regular ov cycles, blood tests all back normal. The only thing that often shows up in my feet is thyroid although so far GP tests have all been normal.

Hi Millie,

I'm sorry to hear about you repeated m/c !!! If you were my client i'd probably be asking you to stop trying to conceive just for the moment. Without knowing your age, medical background,cycle pattern etc it's difficult to know what's going on !!! If there is an imbalancein your endocrine system the reflexology can, given time, help to correct this. I would though, give it at least 3 months before you attempted to conceive again.

IMHO no amount of reflexology or acupuncture at or around ovulation will prevent m/c if you system isn't balanced in the first place. Your LH, FSH, Progesterone and hGC levels all need to be balanced in order to keep a pregnancy. They all work off each other and if one is out of sync ~ they might well all be out of sync !!! Even though your tests are coming back normally, there might well be a tiny imbalance too small to show up !!! This might be affecting either the formation of the egg, lining of the endometrium, or progesterone/LH levels needed to keep the pregnancy in the first couple of weeks.

Concentrate on balancing the entire system !!! Also give yourself a rest ~ emotionally and physically !!! Endorphin (happy hormone) levels are equally important !! You've been through a lot recently and must be stressed and upset !!! The reflexology will stimulate your endophin levels and put you a much better place to conceive !!!

Auricular acupuncture has been shown to increase the chances of conception taking placewhen used around ovulation, but again it won't neccesarily help you to keep a pregnancy if the system is imbalanced in the first place. Using acupuncture alongside Reflexology for a few months would be fab (if you could cope with the costs !!! )

Don't give up ~ you'll get there in the end !!! Hope this helps !!!! Sending you much baby dust xxx

Thank you for your reply. Time unfortunately is not on my side with 40 approaching at the end of the yr. Having said that my Mother had 3 m/cs before having me at 42! I know taking a break would cause me more stress at the moment, I can say that for sure, although if I didn't feel physically or emotionally ready to try again I wouldn't. I just don't want another baby to be conceived and for whatever reason my bodyrejects it, seems unfair on the babies. However, I know that all 3 just may be natures way. I'm hoping that when I attend the recurrent m/c clinic I might get more or an insight into what is happening, then again I may not. The 1st and 3rd m/cs at first glance feel a bit like a drop in progesterone but the 2nd one could still have been going yet so progesterone wasn't an issue there. I'm reading the miscarriage book by Lesley Regan just now and if I didn't already think conception and viability were a delicate balance of many elements I certainly do now.

I've had one serious illness when I was 7, bacterial pnemonia. Since then it's mainly headaches that have been troublesome but have been helped through cranial sacral therapy. My first pg was great although I ended up with an emergency c-section. I've had subsequent scans and things seem ok.My cycles are very normal ovulatory cycles, I chart my bbt.Thyroid shows up through reflex and it seems to correct it for a time, I'm wondering if it runs in parallel with my cycles which may make sense with what's going on. The book I'm reading talks of thyroid causing issues but they have now found that it's mainly in conjunction with blood clotting issues, I'll find out more when I get tested.

TBH I was more stressed and upset a mth ago when I wondered if I would get pg again. I decided to make some phonecalls for some support. I didn't know whether I needed grief counselling (lost both parents and m/cs), m/cs or infertility. I've since had 2 wkly m/c sessions and will continue with these. You mention acupuncture and it's fair to say I get the impression that people have more faith in acupuncture than reflex in these circumstances. Not sure why, perhaps they look on it as more dynamic? But I'm keen to stick with reflex for the time being. I'd spoken with my reflexologist and an acupuncturist and they suggested keeping them separate? I guess I just wondered since my reflexologist didn't have experience in this matter if any other therapist could suggest something through their experience. I'm having a sess around implantation this time but I also wonder if it would be useful to have a sess just before I normally m/c if I know I'm pg? At this stage you wonder about wondering!!
