Reiki Table? Is it necessary?

I'm trying to understand what the big difference is between a Reiki table and a 'regular' table. I know what Reiki is - I just don't get the reason for a special table?

I can just feel an obvious answer coming.. LOL.

As far as I know the main difference is the end plates. The Reiki end plates for a table are stationed high up so that the practitioner can get their knees underneath the table. While a standard table has end plates placed about midway up the legs.

In addition, I've heard it said that people who prefer to do energy work, often prefer to have a wood rather than a metal frame on their table.

But, that is about as much as I know. Others may have more info to add.

I don't do Reiki, or any energy work, but I always opt for the Reiki end plates because (since I am short) I am able to put my legs under the table when doing seated work at the head or feet. I like being able to have some leverage and it makes it easy to shift to one side or the other.

I think I would have some serious bruising around my knees if I had the regular end plates.

I agree with ccMarie... I bought my table (oakworks wellspring) with the Reiki end plates so that I wouldn't smack my knees into the wood. I am tall, and have had 2 knee surgeries on my left knee, it wasn't a pleasant experience having to work around them on the wooden table.

That would be the difference. It's a nice touch but not necessary. Reiki can be given anywhere.

When I purchased my last table, a couple of years ago,
I purchased it with Reiki end plates - because not only do I
do energywork, but also sitting at both the end of the table
when doing a lot of neck & shoulder bodywork, & then reflexology at the other end, is a whole lot more comfortable for me. I also went for a table with a center locking cable system, so I wouldn't have the cables stretching down the length of the table anymore. That way, when I do energy work while seated on the sides of the table, I don't have the cables up against my legs anymore either.

All & all it's great not having things in the way!

I think it's necessary whether you do reiki or not! ;-) I can't stand a table I can't get my knees under when doing seated work at the head or feet!

Though I absolutely love my table - the company was a pain to deal with at the time (hopefully they've improved since then). I hope they read that!

I received pieces of it one at a time - over a period of a 4 to 6 weeks. The face cradle, then the bag for the table - then I think it was finally the table itself. Their communication was next to zero. I knew it would be an "experience" going in however, because I had been buying supplies through the vendor who handled the transaction for years, & they gave me a heads up in advance. At least I had fair warning!

I had to go to the website to doublecheck all the features that are on mine - They currently have a few of the
Master bodyworker models on clearance, as well as a lot of others, just in case anyone wants to take a look. If anyone does order from them, I hope the customer service has been upgraded! I'd have to check but I think I purchased the table about 2 years ago now.

Looking for a Reiki and Massage table

HI, I created another thread but maestra pointed me here. I was wondering if someone could give me suggestions for a table with the following specs:

I have up to $400 to spend right now, hopefully more later but this might be all i can work with for a while. I'm looking for something that is made of good quality solid wood (no metal or plastic - I don't know what's available so if i say something that isn't correct or possible please let me know.), has arm rests, an adjustable and good quality head rest (I've heard some fall apart easier than others), the ability to support larger clients (weight as well as height - probably no more than 6 and 1/2 feet tall). I'm new to this, and I will be working with Reiki but depending on how interested I get will go to Massage School as well.

I've searched online for reviews, but I don't know enough about the subject of tables to know the best place to look, features of tables, or even tables to look at, or the places and tables I need to stay away from.
