Ring the bell?

Hello Mates!

Ive been reading the forum for some time now, preparing for my second trip in June..
Theres many Abbrevations That i didnt know in the beginning but the forum Sticky's helped me..
But theres still one thing i keep running into on my reading here, People Ringing the bell.. I understand it haves a connection to alcohol in some way..
But in Simple words, what does it mean??

Not sure if this is a stupid question, but ive been wondering about that for some time now..

(allready tried the Seach function, but only got more posts where the "ring the bell" accouring, no description )

If you feel like buying everyone in the bar at the time then ring that bell! This will show how generous you are.

In some bars it's buy a drink for the girls so not quite as expensive and in some of the gogos it's buy a drink for the girls dancing at the time.

Try and suss out the rules of the particular bar.......

Kristian...Ring the Bell only when you feel like it...Like if it´s your last night and the bar you have been vissiting most then ring the bell and give the girls a drink so they know that you have enjoied their company and the bar.....But be sure how much you have to pay before you ring..It´s not the same in every bar...Enjoy.

ring the bell for me usually means its time for a taxi home. In Patts last October me and three Dubliners went on a ring the bell piss up. Every time it was your round you had to do it. I went into a small bar in north Patts thought wooho my luck is in (it was a side entrance to a £100 round) so be carefull lol

During my last trip, one night in Pharaohs bar, NEP, this crazy guy rang the bell three times in a row, apparently he does this every time he goes there, I already had 2 beers lined up sitting with friends, it was mad but very funny, he wouldn't allow anyone to return the favour either which was a shame :what:

Pharaohs Bar in NEP is rather large...How many drinks are we talking about ??

A drunken friend of mine decided it would be funny, when in Chiang Mai last time, one night, 3 of us had headed out, found this little bar with only 4 girls their and a Thai guy - co-owner I think. All in all a total of 8 people.

Our mate thought it would be real funny to keep ringing the bell - 8,500 baht later, Mark and I left him to sort out the financial fallout of his antics and refused to drink with him again that night unless he quit the bell ringing fiasco every two minutes.

Was quite intresting to see how many extra girls suddenly came out of the woodwork though. By the time Mark and I decided to leave, there must have been around 10 - 12 of em...Stupid farangs....

Wait, so just to clarify: ringing the bell buys drinks for EVERYONE? Not just the girls? Like every other customer as well?

You should know what 'Ringing the Bell' will cost you in any particular bar before you ring it.

In Thailand Bell Rings will get you a bill of varying amount and at would advise newbies to assume its a Type 1 Bell unless you see a sign or ask the staff otherwise.

Type 1) - The unlimited cost bell ring - where you buy everyone one in the bar a drink, staff, bargirls AND all other customers drinking there - this is normally what ever the customers are already drinking. This can be VERY expensive if the bar is crowded.

Type 2) - Fixed price bell ring - you will see a sign saying how much the bell ring will cost you. Normally for say 1000 Baht everyone in the bar will get a shooter.

Type 3) - More for gogo's where the bell ring will buy a Lady Drink for all the girls up on seforum.xxxe dancing.

NB: In Philipinnes bell rings are mostly the fixed cost variety but the cost is much higher than Thailand, but you do get your name put up on the wall - which they used to do in Thailand 10+ years ago.

And in small beer bars I would say type 1 is bar far the most common. Type 2 will usually have a sign proclaiming it..

there is also Type 1a (just to confuse things) where a bell ring just buys all the customers a drink - you can specify this at MTB.

Playschool used to do that until it was renovated in 2000 , they had big mirrors covering the wall and your name/date/number of drinks was painted on (usually the next day).

i got conned in Moon Bar, rang the bell (the sign said 1000 thb) but got charged far more:angry: ...despite spending a fortune on ladies and drink over the holiday . I'm sure i can find other bars to take my money
