Screens/Partitions

Anybody know a good source for privacy screens or partitions? I have an opportunity to massage at a local gym, but the room is HUGE and I would like to partition it off and make a cozier space. Also, during my off hours the other half of the room would be used for art therapy, so I definitely want to create a boundary that says "don't go past here".

I thought of making my own to save money - I read once about using bi-fold doors and connecting them with hinges. But my homemade projects tend to turn into disasters, so unless anyone knows how to make one REALLY EASY I'd rather find one already made.

I seem to recall, years ago, Christopher Lowell doing some really interesting things with dividers, wall units and even creating a screen by uniting with I think it was piano hinges, three hollow core doors? It looked pretty good and was fairly sturdy looking.

Anyway here's one interesting possible solution. You could make a wall like this and instead of putting a "bed" on the other side to attach it to, perhaps you could create a little "window seat" type bench?

I had the similar problem with my current office space - it is huge and I needed to break it up. I have screens that I bought to create "walls" for my massage room, then for the rest of the office - I bought blinds- jute maybe? not sure what the material is, but they look like a natural material. I got mine at World Market. anyway, I took these blinds and hung them with fish wire from the ceiling. they break up the space, but still keep an "airy" feel. it has worked perfectly for me, and I get lots of compliments on the creativity of them and the open airy feel of my space.

In school, we had one big room for working on clients durring clinic. It was divided into three table spaces with cheesy room dividers. I still have room divider nightmares to this day. You never knew when one was going to fall down. Clients would also complain if other clients would talk through the session. The school has since moved, thank god! I bet they increased the client load since they now have separate treatment rooms.

Thinking back to the room dividers.... sure it was a bargin basement massage, but dang!! Some people will put up with anything if the price is right!

ikea ... they have very cool room dividers...tracks attach to celing and you hang sliding panels on them...you can pick from different materials or make your own panels...mine are a bamboo material..they look great...

you can slide the panels back and stack them so they are out of the way if need be when not in use..

How much was your divider from World Market? I never thought of looking there.

I suppose I will need a divider of sorts eventually. I will be offering couples massage eventually. All kinds of couples, including just friends couples who might not be comfortable undressing and getting a massage in each others view, but still would like to be in the same room.

I would not use the divider for two strangers. I will have two rooms in my new building.

Maybe I dont need any dividers?? I think I would get one just to be on the safe side.

I think it was around $50 on sale.....

check their website. You can see all their dividers there and find out if its still on sale. This was right b4 xmas......but they usually have a big sale in January.

I was glad I got it. Even though Im just starting out......the screen can be used for so many other things, even just decorations if I dont use it for my practice. Right now though, it gives privacy bc Im working from home. I got the black one with rice paper. The natural wood didnt look as good as I thought it would......

yep i totally agree that they look really, really great. and the bonus is that they go from ceiling to floor unlike a divider or panel. pretty inexpensive too if i remember correctly!

I have a slanted ceiling do you think the tracks on the ceiling with hanging material could work?
It's that or building my own divider.
