HOUSTON - Several massage parlors have been permanently closed and the owner banned from the business for life after signs of suspected human trafficking.
The owner, Hsin Wei Chen, signed an agreement Friday with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TLDR) agreeing to permanently close seven other massage businesses in the Houston and Beaumont area.
A TDLR inspector found some “disturbing tells” of human trafficking including people living inside the massage establishments, luggage, and large amounts of food.
Despite the agreement, some parlors remained open as recently as today. TDLR has revoked Chen’s massage therapy license and the establishment licenses for a total of eight parlors.
