Outside Sofia salaries are much lower but depends on the city, the smaller it is the lower the standard.
Look again http://www.investbulgaria.com/CostOfLaborInBulgaria.php as you see it shows salaries for Plovdid also and they are very close to those in Sofia, but again depends on the city. And it says "salaries in BG have been on the rise in RECENT YEAR' . things are evolving...if you lived in BG 2 years ago you might have a different impression.

Regarding the rip off it happens to locals too, not only foreigners but as you say it doesnt take long to learn things.

If you lived in Bulgaria for years you would know the average salary is not 250 euro, nowhere near it for many / most people outside Sofia.

I have lived here for a few years now and yes I did get ripped off like most foreigners at the stat but it doesnt take long to get your bearings.

I have tried from top to bottom regarding escort services so the last thing I need is a tip from someone like you that hasnt seen better than brothels.

There are MANY people in Sofia with 400-500euro monthly salary and more! As a matter of fact in Sofia is impossible to live with less then that, to give you an example only for central heating people pay a monthly bill 150-200 euro.

The unemployment rate has also been steadily decreasing over the past 8 years with a slight increase the last year due to the world economic crisis:

Bulgarians laugh their asses off at such clueless guys that pay 500 Euro for an escort, 150 Euro for a bargirl or 50 Euro for a taxi. They enjoy ripping you off.

And, no, Tim - I don't mean "rip off" as just being more expensive. I mean it as in "take all your money and give you next to nothing". And theh laugh at you. At least half of the establishments are nothing but fool-traps. For example, they would charge you 200 Euro for a single lady-drink. You don't call that a rip-off?

I had, honestly, all but forgotten about this forum, however somehow people kept contacting me for advice. Bulgaria is still quite a good place for finding GREAT girls DIRT cheap (although 80% of all places were shut down last year). One just has to know where to look - and where NOT to. I think it's pretty universal knowledge that the inside info is invaluable, especially on such a topic.

Will try to keep this thread updated. Here's, again, the two most important things you should know:

1. You don't need to pay more than 20 Euro for a short time with a great slim 18-20 year old girl.
2. Most of the taxis, bars, etc. are only out there to rip foreign guys off, that's how they earn their living. The honest places which keep the low prices are few and far in between.
