Hi everyone

I know that there are lots of you out there who specialise in fertility, pregnancy and women's health. The vast majority of my clients at present are in one of those groups and it is an area in which I wish to specialise. Whilst I am really happy working with the pregnant women having completed Suzane Enzers maternity course, I am not so comfortable with those having difficulty in conceiving or on IVF. I would really love to learn more either by a good course or from books. Can anyone recommend any good courses which cover these subjects, or any useful books? I really want to learn more about what women undergoing IVF go through and what the proceedure is for them - i.e. what drugs they have, the order things are done in and so on.

I really love this line of work and have been thrilled to have some women conceiving having previously (before reflexology) beentrying for some 18 months or so. How cool is that!

Hi

I specialise in Maternity but found that i was attracting clients with infertility problems too. I did feel and probably still feel like i am floating around. However, i went on a one day course called "Improving fertility naturally" which was run by a company called Satovita. The lady who runs it is an accupuncturist and so the course was geared towards Chinese medicine approach, yin and yang. But i did learn something on the course about Infertility treatments and the types of blood tests and how mem can improve the quality of their sperm. I also read Zita Wests book and I also have "The Infertility Cure" by Randine Lewis. It is based on accupuncture and Chinese Medicine but it has som amazing information in it. I am looking at it now and its great. I have just read that if the Liver system is noy functioning smoothly, neither is the hormonal system. When i treated a client the other day fro reflex, she had congestion/ grittiness in her liver and she has low oestrogen and progesterone levels. I hope this helps.

Definetly link with TCM and fertility. I know Meridianmoon specialises in this field and used auricular acupuncture and reflexology to great success with her fertility clients.

Also am co-ordinating an auricular acupuncture course is you are interested.

Thanks for your replies. CL I will definately look into those books, not sure about the course if it is very chinese medicine oreintated. Would really love to find a reflexology based course if there is such a thing out there. Daisychain - I have already done the Susanne Enzer course which was brilliant, and I love working with the pregnant clients. I really want something more fertility based.
I don't really know anything about auricular acupuncture so would be interested in finding out more if you have the time.

Hi Karen,

I cant help you with courses but I may be able to help with IVf info. I trained as a reflexologist after having IVF treatment and reflexology. I have since done a frozen embryo cycle, so i am able to answer any questions you may have on procedures etc, although clinics do vary. I bought a DVD through our Irish Reflexology Institute (www.reflexology.ie), i am not sure how readily available thsi is, but it was at a conference and the doctor who is in charge of my IVf clinic did a talk on how IVf works for all the Reflexogists attending. It is very interesting and informative, for anyone who is not aware of what actually happens. But i am more than happy to answer any questions you have regarding what IVf involves.

yes sorry, after reading your posting again I noticed that you said you'd already done Susanne's course.

The auricular acupuncture course is a 4 day course and you will learn a lot of TCM, how the liver is linked to .... etc (haven't done the course yet, sorry).
You will learn how to apply needles to 5 main acupoints in the ear which help with stress and calming, but also helps with things like addictions, etc.

I was drawn to going on the course after working with meridianmoon. She specialises in fertility and uses the acupuncture with reflexology. She said that she really 'got' reflexology after attending the acupuncture course, it made more sense and was more complete. So if the liver reflex shows up on the feet it is linked to ...... and thats why something is depleted or not working properly.

Meridianmoon has a lot of infertile clients or people going through IVF, etc, etc on her books. She has succeeded in 8 pregnancies so far.

perhaps you could pm her and get it from the horses mouth.

I have had it done too on a number of occassions with her and the feeling is amazing. The first time I felt euphoric.

I personally don't want to go into fertility issues etc, but I want to be able to give my reflexology clients and massage clients a better treatment which I think they will get by having regular auricular acupuncture.

I remember having a discussion about this website many moons ago on HP. Someone who calls themselves 'The Babymaker' doesn't sit comfortably with me, after all we are just facilitators.

Also the fact that this woman has to mention that she has treated a celebrity is in breach of confidentiality and even with his permission, the fact that she has to state the fact as well as seeking publicity and documenting it on her website IMO is not a good sales pitch.

Having just qualified as a reflexologist and about to go mobile, I found your post re DVD's interesting and have visited the site you mention. I am UK based. Which DVD was it re the IVF etc. I liked the RIEN conference notes DVD's as they seemed interesting lectures etc. Will I be able to purchase a copy? GOing to the Sept/Oct beauty conf near where I live which also caters for reflexology and there are various seminars etc going on which should be good by all accounts from people who went last year.
