Staying in the new Radisson for a couple of weeks...

Hi All,

Sorry to ask for information on my first post...

I'm coming down to Phuket on Friday night to do some sailing training for a couple of weeks and will be staying at the new Radisson on Cape Panwa.

I've never been to Phuket before and was wondering where the closest area would be to the hotel with "interesting" nightlife i.e. loose women and good beer :happy:

I guess from looking at the map it will be either the Chalong Bay area or Phuket Town, anyone got any favourites out of the two?

And yes I know I'm going to have to pay loads in taxis, i'll only be doing it once in a while so it is what it is.

Chalong, Phuket Town is too Thai style with no go area's

Patong, Patong, Patong.

Chalong Bay is nice but not that great at night time. Very few bars compared to Patong. It is a more local scene.

A taxi to Patong should run you no more that 500bt and you will have the time of your life.

Never been out in Phuket town so can't comment but the time I went their in the day I did not see much action.

Any ideas roughly how long it would take in a taxi from the southern most point of the cape up to Patong?

what i would do is have some nights out in Patong and rent a guestroom on soi sansabai or close to Bangla Rd for the night

this way you are not going back and forth
soem other guys know of bars down in Rawai that is a quieter scene

so maybe some wild nights in patong and some nights in the quieter bar scene closer to your hotel is a good mix

Yeh I did think about that but i'd rather wake up in the Radisson if possible, I do like my creature comforts in the mornings.

Rawai sounds interesting, do you know any more about it?

the thing is, i know from experience
you obviously sound like you are looking to have fun with the girls

once out and about you wont want to head all the way back there in a tuk tuk at night and if you are taking a girl she may not want to go and will be a hassle in the morning to get her back to Patong

for me, staying in Patong a few nights gives you those wild nights and then the nights you stay near radisson you have some relaxed days

Thanks Marc, you're making allot sense even though i'm trying not to accept it if you know what I mean, I guess i'll have to get a room up there between sailing courses.

all i am trying to say is id rather have 8-9 days where i know i am staying by radisson and dont have that trek ahead of me
much more relaxing

start a thread and ask if anybody has a number for a taxi
people will have one and much better talking to one taxi and using him your whole holiday
get better deal

if you have a big night out on bangla, usually you don't have to worry about waking up in the morning, more like 1-2pm. so creature comforts of the radison will still be there when you get back.

I mean I can't be bothered to get a taxi back the next morning/early afternoon with a stinking hangover, I just want to wake up and laze around all day....

Anyway, looking at the responses it seems like I need to get a taxi to Chalong or Rawai, i'll take my chances over there.

According to the pricelist the Tourism Authority of Thailand publishes a tuktuk from Cape Panwa to Phuket Town should cost 250baht...to Patong 500baht.

Cape Panwa to Patong will take 20 to 30 minutes.

Rawai when going down the main highway there are about 15 bars/massage shops on the lefthand side in the last 1/4 mile before you hit the ocean and then on the righthand bend at the bottom of the island there are maybe another 10 there.

Charlies bar in rawai on the corner is a good laugh....clubs nearby looked very Thai tho...run by a very large scarey looking cockney Charlie)...bitter on tap for you northerners...ok for a day bender but nothing can beat Patong

And do you believe that? How much is a local trip in Patong according to the same list? Local fares in Phuket are between 20 and 40 Baht, Patong-Karon is 100 Baht...:dlb:

No I don't believe it because ask any tuktuk driver for a price list and he won't have one and you have to negotiate but in this months' edition of Phuket Francophone there is a tarriff table for the TAT for tuktuk journeys. Doesn't give a price for journeys within Patong but Patong to Phuket Town should be 400...to Kamala, Kata and Karon 200!

There's also a listing for Songtaew journeys...Phuket Town to Patong, Karon or Chalong is 25baht. Surin, Kamala or Rawai 30 baht.

There's also a Microbus I didn't know about that starts at Tesco Lotus goes through Phuket Town to Saphan Hin Park 10 baht for any part of the journey.

There's a few bars and a couple of night clubs in Rawai this is what you want. Start a new thread asking specifically about Rawai and it's nightlife that might help narrow your search.
