The role of love in energy work

"Love" is a difficult, emotionally laden word, with far too many definitions in our society, but I'd like to approach the role of love in the realm of energy work.

The kind of love I am referring to here is not really attached to the person, or persona of the individual you may be working on, but in the unconditional, metaphysical sense that your client is a human soul, with their own hopes, joys, loves, fears, anxieties, and apprehensions that are not all that dissimilar to your own. You acknowledge them as a human being, and in the "namaste" sense, a part of you. It is more a love of what they are, than who they are.

I have generally found it easy to put myself into this paradigm, and I think it is one of the main reasons why I have a "natural affinity" for energy work.

In addition to the kind of love described above, I also find it easy to see the best in people, and to come to appreciate them for who they are, as well. As I work with someone and get to know them, I delight in their individuality and uniqueness. Even their flaws, I try to perceive as one perceives the "flaws" in marble - as just another part of their overall beauty. I choose to accept them as a whole, rather than focusing on this imperfection or that. The more I do this, the more empowered I become to work with their own energy. They feel my acceptance, and trust my (energetic) touch.

That was one of the best descriptions that I have ever been blessed to read on the concept of love and energy work. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.

I have been most fortunate to study with a Japanese sensei whose energy healing form speaks directly to the concept of healing with love. Working from the concept of love as you have perfectly described it does provide the healer and the healee, if you will, to blend their energies and intents to make the palpable space in time for wondrous energy transfers to occur and actual healing body, mind, spirit/soul to occur. It allows the compassion that supercedes all else to take root and grow and develop the healing that the patient seeks for her/him self.

I have personally seen what I believe to be miracles occur when energy work is done in the spirit of LOVE and received in the same manner. It is one of the most rewarding manners in which to assist another living being.

Love

I really enjoy reading all of these messages about love and what 'it' feels like. One definition that sparks my awareness is -- Love is the recognition of seeing ourselves in another. (Oscar Ichazo) I don't remember the exact quotation, but when I am at my best, everyone is attractive. As one of you noted, there is no judgment. Also, I recall Tarthang Tulku writing about this subject in Kum Nye Massage--when we are touching someone, we are touching everyone and everything whether we are aware of it or not.

Love is a word with many connotations. Unconditional love as described and used in energy work stated here has to begin with love of self. Knowing that I am perfect in my own spirit, and that all my past experiences happened for a reason, and that they bring me to where I am right now. Truly being able to love yourself opens the door to loving ALL others unconditionally, or as I read somewhere unconditioned! Touching one is touching all. I have really been feeling that in the last few weeks. It can make a big difference in how you approach the session.

I completely identified with the first post and I wanted to tell you so!

It is my intention with every massage session to connect with my "higher power" which is Love, to stay in Love and let myself go. And in every session I feel guided like in energy work to put my hands here or there, to do this or that...and that has made my massage sessions absolutely incredible, to me and my clients.

Thank you for bringing this subject up. It is the way I approach my touch therapy sessions.

Sometimes I notice other feelings suddenly emerging, suddenly I might feel really frustrated, overwhelmed with emotion wanting to sob, or I might feel anger, disgust, rage....and I get confused...bring myself back to my Loving state, and I realize I have been picking up from my client. I am pretty good now to know I am beginning with love, so when other emotions present, I observe them and acknowledge them to see if they are mine or if I am picking up from the client.

Today I did a 30 minute on the back with a second session client and I was picking up major energetic stuff, emotional stuff....it was powerful, but through it all I knew that I was coming from a very pure place of Love and that this was not mine....I struggled with whether or not I should tell her what I had experienced and in the end I did tell her with choice words. She took it all very well. But this is the delima I encounter with my massage practice being so married to my energetic senses.....do I tell the massage client what I experience? If this is not the thread to discuss it, I will start another.

I too have struggled w/ the question, "do I tell the client what I was picking up?" The answer for ME is this: it depends. It depends on how my intuition is about the openness the client has toward receiving such a message. It depends on the intensity of the emotions/perceptions that I have observed coming from the client..... There have been times that I most assuredly solved my dilemma by telling the client that there seemed to be a bit of "something" possibly an emotional memory or experience that seemed to be being held in a given place on the body. And, then, there are the times that I tell the client straight forwardly, "Look Herkimer, here's the deal with those butt cheek cramps you came in here griping about - you are holding anger there at someone you believe to be a pain in the butt!!! There was a huge amount of anger, and distrust I felt there when I was trying to work out the cramping you said you were still feeling long after the muscles had given up and gone slack! " I can work wonders with muscles, but, you are gonna have to address the emotional stuff either through counseling, or self-analysis 'cause I can't make something go away that is that kind of an emotional memory lodged in tissue. I'll do my best with the rest of your concerns, but, man, you have that one to work on for your own well-being."

It does help! I had my first "overwhelming energetic pick up" almost a year ago and since then I have told my clients in choice verbage about my experience depending on my relationship with them. When I encounter really strong stuff I always ask the Universe how I should approach it with the client in verbage form and usually it comes out articulated nicely. Today I had a sense that a very distinct entity was trying to give a very precise message to my client and it was the first time that has happened.

I felt like a day time talk show psychic.

When people come for neck pain relief and I pick up that Jesus is trying to commune with them....well, it's just an awkard feeling at first trying to communicate that.

When people are regulars it seems easier to work into conversation...."Hey have you ever had your heart torn out? Because I sensed this 'tear' over here...." But for new people it's always kinda funky.

When I am intuned with my higher power, Love, I tend to pick up and deliver more energetic stuff.

The challenge of Love

Truly extending unconditional love to another in a healing or massage work session sometimes means I have to be willing to let the person keep their pain and discomfort.

In the beginning, my personality self wanted to struggle with this, because I wanted to know I was helping and of course, I wanted the person to walk away feeling they had healed something for themselves with my support.

Also, I genuinely felt such deep empathy for their pain that I longed to see it go from them, not realizing that it wasn't my decision to make.

As I grew as a healing facilitator, I began to see the wisdom of allowing each Sovereign Being of God that comes to me for assistance to set the pace of their own healing.

Sometimes, after a person would call to say they felt worse than they did before the session, a dialogue could start about what was being resisted. Resistance to healing always stirs up pain, emotional struggles, etc. and I've learned not to consider that a bad thing, or a sign that the healing didn't "take". It's always about the person and their level of surrender or resistance to the energy.

I learned that my job was to be clear myself, and open to allowing energy flow that would support the person on my table in the perfect way for them, not necessarily the perfect way for me, or what I thought should result.

To me, that's really the test of love. Letting whatever happens be ok.

As far as picking up energies and messages, goodness yes, I've had that happen too and at first, I worried that I should always speak out. My fear was that I would miss telling the person something that might be vital for them.

Again, time and experience taught me that the Universe will let me know if I need to speak something out and how to speak it out, if so.

Many times, it was an ego need, not something Spirit required.

Why would my ego need it? Oh, because part of me wanted to know that what I was hearing or seeing was accurate. Partly because I wanted to be affirmed or to be sure that I delivered all that I saw.

Now, I realize that many times, I just feel it because that's who I am. It doesn't mean I'm supposed to say anything about it. If I am supposed to speak, and I get my mind out of the way, it's always clear. In fact, the other person will usually say something at that point, to open the door for the discussion.

I love what I do and therefore love the people who come to me and allow me to do it.. Reiki Love is pure, unattached and it gives me every bit as much as it does my clients. It is a blessing and an honour to do it. I always thank my clients for bringing me that opportunity. (I also bow to them in gratitude while they're still on the table but I am sure they are not aware of that.)

The role of love in energy work

Many of us who work with wounded warriors in our program accept and realize that All is Love and All is God's Will. We love these soldiers and their families and with this unity we grow and heal together. We are channels for this energy, I believe, because we practice what we introduce and teach. We all Slow Down together so that we can join with Nature in this healing process and program. I have completed almost 3 years in our war trauma center and am in the process of leaving. I will continue our Work with our soldiers and veterans, but closer to home.
