The sometimes ! crazy world of bars and discos owned bt Thais!

It never ceases to amaze me the situations you come accross in los sometimes a prime example are Thai owned bars, How many times have you walked into a brand new refurbished premises and counted 3 staff for every customer AN example of this is discos inside hotel premises, You get places like the angels disco in the Nana hotel; bangkok which basically is a pure money making machine they basically can charge any amount for a drink and they would probably get it. But then you come to the Asia hotel in Pattaya i stayed there 3 years back ,its basically a 10 minute taxi ride into the town so one night decided to give their onsite disco a go i walked in there with my 4 friends and our girlfriends at about 1030 pm the place was absolutely spanking with a brilliant sound system but apart from us there were 4 people there, strange i thought ! then proceede to order a round of drinks the drinks came and on checking i found out that they were charging 180 bhat for a beer ,absolutely crazy and that happens in many places in pattaya if the bar is not busy they seem to think the answer is to up the drink prices why does no one think the other way that night they sold us 8 drinks for 1400 bhat and then we pissed off very quickly elsewhere if they had been charging say 120 bhat we would have stayed for maybe 4 rounds and probably lots more people would have come in so they would have ended up making lots more money but Thais never seem to think that way i am endlessly ending up in late night karaoke bars in Pattaya with maybe 6 customers and about 10 staff But then again things like that all add up to making los the crazy place we cant stay away from : :

If unsure about prices in any establishment, check the prices before you get comfortable, If the place isn't some rip off joint..they won't mind you asking or showing you a drinks menu with prices on.

I've been trying to tell this hard headed foreigners that IT IS OUTRAGEOUS in Thailand, fee charges for beer and girls. 180 baht in Pattaya for been is more expensive then a beer in Mexico ( 2 dollars ). I have paid 800 baht at the some of the BKK bars before ( I think it was at the Sheraton hotel/club ).
You keep paying and they will keep raising. I think they learn this system by watching the U.S market lol...

I thought in your other post, you stated that Thailand is cheap....??? I still think you can buy a beer in mexico for $ 2 top. Why would anyone pay more then that in Asia? When I visited Thailand for the first time , I bought with me $ 4,000 usd for 8 days. I went on a spree and didn't care about rates for beer, bgs and ect. All I did was spend spend spend and it was worth it for all the fun I had. But after a few more regular trips I noticed that other guys was right about spending habbits. So now I can get my 8 days for only $ 500 dollars

just paid $3 per beer(tecate) at Adelita's this weekend(Saturday June 18) in Tijuana so certain venues, strip clubs, go go bars, places with female entertainment and the opportunity to get laid, obviously charge more in Mexico also.

And $3 is nothing compared to your local bar in the US, normally $4 and up depending upon the bar for the same quality beer, not BUD or Coors Light?

Some people will think it is too high and others will not.

And some establishments will charge too much and lose their clientele or not have any clientele. The establishment will either go out of business or adapt.

It is stupied to buy a beer in a 5 star hotel. You don't pay local price, you pay Sheraton price. If you just step 15 meter out of your hotel you could have one at a local price, and that is not 800 or even 180 baht.
I never drink in the bar of a big hotel, or use the minibar. If you have some experience you know the prices are inflated.

why, how much is a bottle of beer in a pretty good bar, not just a pub, but a bar with a good scene, cost in ireland.
a bottle of domestic beer(bud, coors,etc) cost about 4-5usd(160-200baht) about 6-7usd in a big club in manhattan. the most expensive ive seen in the states is the holiday weekends in the summer at the hamptons(its the summer hangout arae for manhattan, 2 hour drive on long island) and that was 10-11usd(400-440baht)

I think I paid about 7 or 8 GBP at a fly club in London for G&T's and Bacardi coke type mixers.. Sure slowed my shouting rounds out..

Generally we pay GBP 2.50 TO 3.00 for a PINT (568 ml). This is around London and the Home Counties - it is cheaper in some parts of the country. I'm talking about premium lagers like Stella or Kronenbourg 1664 etc.

Assuming GBP 2.75 for 568 ml

That equates to about 190 baht for 568 ml.

That's 0.33 baht per ml.

I think the bottles in LOS are 330 ml so at UK rates we would pay about 110 baht.

Food, accomodation etc are extremely cheap in LOS compared to UK but it seems that beer is only slightly cheaper?
